ODC-to-OOG and Beyond

Over-dimensional cargo (ODC) and out-of-gauge (OOG) cargo can pose a challenge even for seasoned project logistics professionals. But for Sarjak Container Lines, they're a chance to showcase our expertise in navigating complex projects. Take, for instance, the recent transportation of a massive shipment of transformers from Rijeka, Croatia to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

These transformers, with a total CBM of 1200 and the heaviest lift clocking in at a staggering 140 MT, demanded a methodical approach. That's where the SCL Mercury, our multi-purpose heavylift vessel, stepped in.

Our team began with efficient port operations in Rijeka. Careful planning ensured the transformers were strategically positioned near the SCL Mercury's loading area. This minimised travel distances and streamlined the loading process.

But the real feat was the lift itself. Here, our expertise in intercarting techniques shone through. Using advanced methods and the SCL Mercury's gear, we achieved a precise and efficient alignment between the transformers and the specialised crane hooks. This ensured both safety and speed, crucial factors when handling such colossal cargo.

Once safely onboard the SCL Mercury, the focus shifted to securing the transformers for the voyage. A stevedoring process ensured optimal space utilisation within the vessel's hold while prioritising cargo security. Advanced loading methods dictated the optimal placement of the transformers, further bolstered by a multi-pronged approach:

* Lashings: These securely bound the transformers to designated points within the hold, preventing movement during transport.

* Strategic Dunnage Deployment: Strategically placed dunnage materials like wedges and chocks filled any voids between the transformers, creating a stable and secure environment.

* Additional Securing Measures: Turnbuckles and steel straps were used to further enhance cargo stability.

* Hot Work Procedures (when necessary): In specific instances, meticulous welding or cutting procedures were conducted to prepare the cargo for secure stowage.

This comprehensive approach minimised the risk of shifting or damage during transit, ensuring the transformers arrived at their destination in pristine condition.

The successful transportation of these transformers exemplifies Sarjak Container Lines' commitment to exceeding expectations. We are your one-stop shop for customised OOG and Breakbulk shipping solutions, equipped to handle projects of any size or complexity.

Our team of experts, coupled with the capabilities of the SCL Mercury, allows us to navigate even the most challenging logistics hurdles, delivering powerful solutions that go beyond dimensions.
