October's Events
Alice Barker
Empowering career services through seamless operations for student success ?
October is almost over and it has been a very busy month of events and student engagement. I will try to remember to thank everyone but please forgive me if I forget anyone!
3rd – 9th October
We started the month with the UG Careers Bootcamp at The Shard. Heather W. and I took nine students to the London office of AlphaSights . We had a presentation from Adam Courtney and John-Paul Conway followed by an office tour. Their offices are amazing and very inspiring, we all left wanting to work at AlphaSights – including Heather and me ??. We enjoyed some networking at The Shard next with all the UG Careers Bootcamp companies and stud, thank you to Giorgia McDonald for organising such an amazing day, and re-arranging the date so seamlessly following the Queen's funeral.

Heather, Claire and I were lucky enough to stay after the UG event for Warwick Business School?Women's Professional Network event organised by the brilliant Victoria Gilmore . There was a great presentation from Skyler Xie on 'Building social capital in an inclusive organisation' which I found fascinating. This was followed by networking with lots of wonderful women. Thank you Victoria for a great evening.
In the same week, CareersPlus hosted a festival in the 英国åŽå¨å¤§å¦ - åŽå¨å•†å¦é™¢ foyer, which helped raise the visibility of our great team. We spoke to hundreds of students that week which means our events have been incredibly popular since.

No rest for me at the weekend, as I worked at the 英国åŽå¨å¤§å¦ open day. Thank you to Sarah Booth for giving me this opportunity, I had the best day ever and loved talking to the students about the benefits of the university as a whole. I was based at the Faculty of Arts building which was cool because I got to see a different side of the campus. One of the subjects in the Faculty of Arts Building is Theatre Studies, which I loved at school and college, so it brought back lots of fond memories.

10th – 16th October
I started the week with a very popular event hosted by æ™®åŽæ°¸é“ , which attracted over 300 students. Elena Pelekanou ?and? Jyoti Karshala ?presented to UG and MSc the important skills that are required in consulting applications. Thanks to you both for staying after your presentation to network with the students. It was a very busy evening but it was a great introduction for our early career students to the consulting sector. Thank you to Kate Br?nserud for organising this event and to Heather W. and Chris Knight for supporting the event.

The Employer Relations team delivered our Autumn term Employer Engagement Days on Wednesday and Thursday. On Wednesday, Kate Br?nserud and I welcomed æ³¢å£«é¡¿è°˜è¯¢å…¬å¸ , JLR and 塔塔咨询æœåŠ¡å…¬å¸ to campus to speak to our UG and MSc students about their early career opportunities.

Thank you to Oliver Preece and Oyinkan Adejuyigbe for giving the students so much of your time including hosting the ‘Business and Strategy Consulting Application Workshop with BCG’. This workshop was invitation only for early career students who needed to apply directly with BCG to attend. I asked some MBA students to help at this event as mentors and I would like to take an opportunity to thank them here for supporting their fellow students. Angel Zhou , Angshuman Sarma , Anuj Sharma , Bastián Osorio Castro , Olubukola Adams , Christian Ibru , Dr Idris Mohammed Jega , Lisa Kim , and Sheilah Velasco demonstrated their teamwork skills, and I am grateful I get to work with great students like yourselves.
JLR delivered a great session in our teaching centre, thank you to Calum Holloway for attending and speaking to so many students. It was great to meet Tanvi Upadhyay in person from 塔塔咨询æœåŠ¡å…¬å¸ , who networked with our students all afternoon and presented to them their 'Greater Futures' programme.

On Thursday, Kate Br?nserud and I welcomed speakers from Infosys Consulting , 安永 India and 德勤 to join the students virtually. Thank you to Darren Thomson , Gary Homes and é«˜æ° for starting the day off with an excellent presentation. This was followed by a session led by Vivek Soni from 安永 India who was supported by his colleagues Anushka Raut, Megha Gupta, Siji S Kuruvath, Ravina Verma, Ankit Aggarwal and Paresh Vaish. We finished the day with an inspiring session from Kristen (Rossi) Aghamehdi, MBA from 德勤 who filled the lecture theatre.
We were all tired after a very busy week, it was lovely to deliver an event as a team Kate Br?nserud , Kate Friend , Georgina Lewis , Ranjit Johal , Heather W. , Jennifer Griffiths , Lucy Meredith , Chris Knight and Ila Kiddy . I want to say a special shout out to Lucy Meredith who organised so much of the logistics for EED and it wouldn't have happened without you!

17th – 23rd October
A lovely start to the week, on Tuesday I hosted the first ‘WBS Knitting Club’ which aims to give WBS staff who have an interest in knitting and crochet a well-being break at lunchtime. ?We have a regular group of knitters and crocheters who come together on Tuesday lunchtime to work on their latest projects or learn something new. We don’t talk about work and it’s been a highlight of my week since it began.

Kate Br?nserud and I held a ‘Sector Surgery’ on Wednesday, focused on Consulting and AATL (Aero, Auto, Transport and Logistics). This is a drop-in session which allows students to come and ask any questions about these sectors during their lunch break. We spoke to 33 students and hopefully helped them on their career journey.
My week finished with another Open Day, although it was very busy - it was a joy to work with an amazing student ambassador Oluwatumilara Fagade !. Together we managed the tours at Lakeside accommodation, we faced a few issues but it was great to be supported by such an incredible student. Everyone came together to make the day great for prospective students and made me proud to work for such a wonderful university.

24th – 30th October
By now I was feeling quite tired but I still had consulting's largest event to deliver before I could relax!
Before I get to the details of the ‘Consulting Festival’, I supported Chris Knight with a Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team and WBS: Virtual Recruitment/Placements Session. Amy Inman ?and Meg Steel presented to the students about their finance roles then we opened up two breakout rooms to give the students an opportunity to have informal chats with Amy and Meg.
We then come to the main event…Consulting festival! This was held on Saturday 29th and we welcomed 325 students and 8 speakers to campus. Thank you to all the speakers for giving up your Saturday to help our students. The feedback has been amazing, and everyone got something out of the day.
Consulting Fest Agenda
The day started with a Sector Specialist Overview – hosted by Danilo Di Salvo , which gave the students a great foundation for the rest of the day's presentations and workshops.
After a short break all the students came back for a Masterclass with Alumni Panel: An Overview of the Consulting Career, the students heard from James Parrott , Devika Ghosal , Gordon Agius and Josh McGowan .
Masterclass with Alumni Panel
After lunch, the students had a choice of two workshops. The early career students were taught how to 'Ace your Case Interview' with Danilo. The experienced masters and MBA students had a session on ‘Making the transition into consulting with an Alumni Panel’. On the panel were Angel Zhou , Mayank Shekhar and Nuo XU .
In the afternoon James Parrot hosted a ‘Case practise masterclass’ which proved to be our most popular session with 51% of students choosing this as their favourite session in our feedback survey. Thank you again James for giving up your time to support the students.
Our last session of the day for early career students was hosted by Giorgia McDonald who knocked it out of the park, by being asked to step in for an ill colleague at the last minute. She presented on how to stand out from the crowd, and after Giorgia McDonald , Claire McKeown and I did a small Q&A.
None of this would have been possible without our AMAZING student volunteers Shamma Doshi , Shreena Thakrar , Sneh Mathur , Christine Li, Yitang Sun , Yvonne Liao and Selena Han. You helped the day run very smoothly and I really valued your support.?
