October Training Updates: Introducing Sophie and Exciting Courses!
PGL Midlands Ltd
Health & Safety training provider for the Construction Industry and more.
And just like that, autumn is here! ?? It's a beautiful season, and we're entering the run-up to Halloween, Bonfire Night, and, of course, the big guy himself—no, not Santa, but Bruce Willis in Die Hard making its annual appearance on terrestrial TV this December??. (Is it really a Christmas film? Our Ops seems to think so…???)
Welcome to another edition of our newsletter at PGL Midlands! We have so much to cover, so grab your brews, and let’s get stuck into it.
What's NEW News @PGL
We’re happy to welcome Sophie to the PGL team this week!????After what feels like hundreds of interviews, Em has finally found the perfect admin wizard to keep our customer service high. Sophie brings a wealth of experience. Welcome aboard, Sophie—brace yourself!???
In our last newsletter, you might remember we mentioned that we built a bespoke scaffolding course for a tier-one contractor in the housing sector. Well, we’re pleased to say it was a huge success—just as we expected! The course was tailored to their specific needs and delivered through hands-on instruction.
What’s more, we’re excited to announce that we’ve now added a system scaffold to our training centre to complement our tube and fitting structure, enhancing our overall training delivery. More options, more skills, and even better training!
If you follow us on social media, you’ll have seen that last week we officially became an NPORS centre! (We can already picture the thousands of cards flooding through the post as we speak.) A lot of you have asked why we chose to become an NPORS centre, and the truth is simple: we wanted to make sure the quality is spot on.
We're excited to offer a wide variety of courses under the scheme, and we can’t wait to introduce you to our carefully selected trainers and testers who meet our high standards. Keep an eye out for updates.
Check out our first introductory blog below and visit our NPORS page on the?website for more information!
The fabulous development duo, Laura and Lauryn, have been out and about these past few days visiting various locations. Unlike some, our team doesn’t call clients asking why they use other providers instead of themselves (I know right, madness) or try to undercut or make others look less impressive. (There are some fantastic providers and we’re the 1st?to appreciate that and we work closely with many of them???). ?We simply focus on learning about your business and offering relatable, cost-effective training—always with a splash of PGL quality!
Here they are spending time at Growth Path's annual meeting and awards ceremony. It was a pleasure to attend and witness all the great work you have done in the community over the past year ??. It was also a pleasure to meet @DougWrightMBE and hear his inspiring story. Congratulations to all the finalists—well done!
???Autumn is Here, and PGL is Already Preparing for Winter and Beyond!???

We plan ahead, because we know you do too! All of our 2025 course dates will be live in the next week or so.???

Have you heard about PGL OFF PEAK? Nope, we’re not gearing up for another charity run up mountains... not this year, anyway! PGL OFF PEAK is all about offering more flexible training options in the evenings and on weekends for our clients. We fully understand that not everyone works 9-5 or has the time to attend training during regular hours. If you need something specific, just give us a shout! In the meantime, our most popular off-peak course is the EUSR CAT 1 & 2 on Saturdays. You’ll be done and dusted just in time for the evening footy kick-off, or to grab the popcorn for Strictly!?????? Our next EUSR CAT 1 & 2 Combined course is on the 19th of October at our Birmingham City Centre Venue.

Our XMAS bash is all booked up—how about yours? Apparently, we’re in for a real treat... an Elvis tribute act (fingers crossed it’s pre-1970s Elvis, or we might need extra mulled wine ??). What’s your plan? Fancy dress? Karaoke disasters? Tag us in anything exciting—especially if you've got a better act than ours!????#Jailhouse Rock #HoundDog
Training UK updates
CITB recently released a post about opposing the practice of construction firms passing the Levy cost to subcontractors. The Levy is legally the responsibility of the assessed employer. If you’re a subbie, be aware of this bad practice. Read more here for a full overview:?Passing on the Levy - CITB. If you are an organisation who doesn’t yet pay into the Levy, but are interested in learning more about it, including your eligibility, we have a great blog on the basics of the Levy ??

Home working guidance and resources

With 2025 fast approaching, the UK Gov advised us all that they plan to introduce digital waste tracking across the UK.?Mandatory digital waste tracking - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
Main aim of this: Mandatory digital waste tracking will help businesses and government move towards a circular economy by joining up and digitising currently fragmented systems to provide a single comprehensive way of tracking the amount and type of waste being produced and where it ends up. This will also support the effective regulation of waste, transforming the way environmental regulators monitor compliance, prioritise regulatory activities and help prevent waste crime, including fly tipping, deliberate misclassification of waste, illegal waste exports and the operation of illegal waste sites. It will also facilitate a more level playing field for legitimate waste operators.
Last week it was World Lung Day, on the 25th of?Sept 2024.? The day exists to bring awareness of lung disease and how to prevent it. When doing any work that might put your lungs at risk, we strongly recommend using breathing protection.
