October Roundup: What's new in Edinburgh!

As autumn deepens and the season of festivities begins, Edinburgh is abuzz with colour, excitement and no shortage of new treats! Here's your monthly dose of what's happening in the capital:

Spooky season:

With Halloween upon us, Edinburgh’s businesses have been going all out! From eerie tours with Mercat Tours | Certified B Corp and The Real Mary King's Close to family fun at Craigies Farming Ltd pumpkin patch and Dalkeith Country Park , plus spooky adventures at Camera Obscura & World of Illusions and Dynamic Earth . Edinburgh Horror Festival also jumps up today for those brave of heart.

??? New restaurants:

Fans of sweet treats welcomed the opening of award-winning cinnamon roll chain Shot 'n' Roll earlier this month while wine lovers were treated to the opening of Sotto Enoteca & Trattoria, a wine bar and restaurant serving the best of British produce and Italian fare with an extensive wine list of over 200 varieties.

The Happy Fish has also just opened, offering vegan fish & chips, while The Caledonian Edinburgh is also launching its new restaurant ‘The Court’ later this month.

Excitement brewing:

Forever Edinburgh launched its Meet Edinburgh’s Makers: Brewers & Distillers initiative this month, celebrating the capital’s vibrant distilling and brewing scene and shining a spotlight on its innovative producers and craftspeople.

Edinburgh Cocktail Week Ltd was also been in full swing, showcasing the city’s unique bars and tempting tipples; while New York-inspired cocktail bar Manahatta is set to bring a taste of the Big Apple to Edinburgh at the end of the month.

?? Award winners:

Edinburgh has once again been flexing its hospitality muscles as local favourite Bonnie & Wild's Scottish Marketplace secured the Best for Scottish Independent Business award at the annual Scotland Food and Drink Excellence Awards.

Four Edinburgh hotels were also named 'best in UK and Ireland' with Michelin Key awards, with The Balmoral, a Rocco Forte Hotel , 100 Princes Street - part of The Red Carnation Hotel Collection , Gleneagles Townhouse and Prestonfield among the elite listing.

?? Other going’s-on:

Edinburgh played host to Scotland’s annual Comic Con this month, with a host of A-list stars in attendance and also saw its first ever Asian Culture Market in Leith.

After nearly a decade in the role, Shona McCarthy has announced she will be leaving her role as Chief Executive of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society in Spring 2025. Shona’s passion and unwavering advocacy for artists and participants leaves a lasting legacy in the city as her dedication to the role propelled the festival to new heights as a cultural zenith.
