The IMPART Summit, hosted by the Qatar America Institute for Culture (QAIC), offered a unique opportunity for artists, creatives, and innovators to come together and explore the intersection of art and technology.?The week’s events included cross-cultural dialogues, workshops, an auction and benefit party, and much more!
Last weekend, QAIC and the Institute for Art and Olfaction hosted the first annual “Perfumery Symposium.” Members of the 2023 Olfactory Delegation to Doha invited attendees to explore the cultural significance of fragrance through talks and interactive workshops. Panels such as “Journeys to Qatar” reflect on the delegation’s experiences, while the “Ineffable Oud” session delves into the historical and spiritual aspects of aromatics.?This one-of-a-kind Symposium was made possible by the generosity of ConocoPhillips.
QAIC recently played host to an inspiring and diverse delegation of Qatari artists, creatives, and innovators. Their mission? To celebrate the power of expression, increase intercultural awareness in the community, and explore the dynamic intersection between art, technology, and innovation. The delegation’s visit was a remarkable collaboration, featuring partnerships with the Perfumery Factory, AlHosh Gallery, H Jewelry, and IMPART Artist Grant Winners.?The delegation visited cultural sites such as Museums and the White House Historical Association, as well as the Qatari Embassy in DC.
QAIC Updates
On Saturday, September 30th, QAIC welcomed nearly one-thousand guests during Art All Night Dupont. Our participation included the activation of our Astrolabe interactive exhibition, as well as a mesmerizing live musical performance by Egyptian singer, Ashraf Bashah. The evening was testament to the power of art in fostering cultural understanding and bringing communities together.?
On Friday, October 6th, QAIC unveiled the new 2023 IMPART Exhibition at our Soft Opening during ArtWalk Dupont. The 2023 IMPART Artists Grant Exhibition showcased the latest creations from the three distinguished winners of our annual grant program. The exhibition will feature works by Salma Hassaan (California), Randa F. Malkawi (Virginia), and Farjana Salahuddin (Doha, Qatar). We were pleased to welcome the artists, as well as their family and friends, into our space.

QAIC’s Executive Director, Fatima Al-Dosari, will be speaking at the Fifth Annual Gulf International Conference on November 16th. This year’s Conference will explore “Prosperity and Security of the Gulf Region and U.S. Interests in a Changing World Order.”
Thursday, November 16th, QAIC will be hosting an Arab Film House Screening at the Middle East Institute. The evening will feature the screening of several films produced by our partners at the Doha Film Institute, as well as lively conversation.
QAIC Partner Updates
Coinciding with the 25th anniversary of VCUarts’ branch campus in Qatar, the university’s Richmond campus hosted two exhibitions originating in Doha as part of their annual QatarWeek. The exhibitions provided snapshots of the creative journeys that students make at VCUarts Qatar – from their introductory Art Foundation year to their evolution into career-ready Alumni.
Georgetown’s Communication Culture & Technology program’s alumni, students, and faculty gathered at QAIC for a networking event hosted by, Fatima Al-Dosari, QAIC Executive Director and CCT class of 2016. The event offered a perfect blend of networking, cultural exploration, and delectable cuisine.
Members of the QAIC team recently had the privilege of attending the sixth episode of QatarDebates series, “Oasis of Dialogue: Bridging the Gap Between Muslim Communities and Their Governments.” This platform serves as a constructive space for discussing pressing issues and building bridges of understanding between diverse perspectives.?This episode’s featured speakers included Linda Sarsour, Trita Parsi, and Dr. Dalia Fahmy.
