1. Latino Donor Collaborative releases U.S. Latino GDP Report

At L'ATTITUDE, we unveiled the 2023 LDC U.S. Latino GDP Report, showcasing the U.S. Latino economy's astounding growth from $2.8 trillion to $3.2 trillion, outpacing non-Latino GDP threefold. With a purchasing power of $3.4 trillion, U.S. Latinos are fueling sales growth nationwide. This report revealed that U.S. Latinos are driving job creation, filling vacancies, and establishing new businesses, contributing significantly to economic expansion.?

State-by-state analysis revealed their impact, such as driving 87% of new working age jobs in California and 81% in Nebraska. Sponsored by Wells Fargo Bank and researched by Arizona State University W.P. Carey School of Business, this report provides invaluable insights for businesses, policymakers, and economists, illuminating the vital role U.S. Latinos play in shaping our economic landscape.

2. Latino Start-Up of the Year Selected at L’ATTITUDE Match-Up

L'ATTITUDE Ventures held its prestigious Match-Up event during L'ATTITUDE 2023. Among hundreds of submissions, 19 exceptional companies were chosen to participate, showcasing groundbreaking innovations in healthcare, technology, and consumer sectors. The highlight of the event was the pitch competition, where Novo Space emerged as the winner, securing the title of L'ATTITUDE Latino Startup of the Year. Novo Space, with its vision to advance space technology, expressed gratitude for the recognition, emphasizing the significance of this achievement as a launchpad for their celestial journey.

With $40 million in capital empowering entrepreneurs since 2019, Match-Up continues to catalyze a transformative narrative in venture capital, championing Latino/a change-makers.

3. The Economics of Music, Fashion, and Sports Energize L’ATTITUDE Audiences

  • Music: During the Economics of Music session, it was highlighted that Latin music experienced nearly four times the growth of the overall U.S. music market in 2022. Jesus Lopez, Chairman & CEO of Universal Music Latin America, emphasized the significant global impact of the U.S. Latino market, ranking as the 7th largest music market worldwide. Ignacio “Nacho” Meyer, President of Univision Television Networks Group, affirmed that Latin music is a permanent and mainstream force driving commerce and trends. Emilio Estefan, L’ATTITUDE partner, award-winning musician, and producer emphasized the future of music as unity, bringing diverse sounds from various sources. Bruno Del Granado, Head of the global Latin Music touring group at CAA, underscored how U.S. Latinos are pivotal in driving the industry's live music growth, citing the mainstream success of artists like Bad Bunny and Karol G, positioning Latin music firmly in the mainstream rather than a niche market.
  • Fashion: During the Economics of Fashion session, moderated by CNBC Correspondent Contessa Brewer, Karla Martinez de Salas, Head of Editorial Content at Vogue Mexico & Latino America, and Willy Chavarria, Founder and Creative Director of Willy Chavarria, shared invaluable insights. Willy emphasized the importance of showcasing nuanced Latino beauty, resonating with the audience when he highlighted the rapid sell-out of their recent launch, Big Willy. Karla discussed her deliberate choice to feature diverse women from Latino culture on Vogue covers, aiming to pave the way for inclusivity in the fashion industry. Notably, data presented at L’ATTITUDE revealed that U.S. Latinos contribute significantly, accounting for 34% of the growth in apparel spending in the country.
  • Sports: In a compelling session titled "Game Changers: Latinas Driving the Business of Women in Sports," Latinas' significant economic impact on women's sports was highlighted. Moderator Ana Jurka, Telemundo Sports Anchor, led the discussion with Monica Gil, EVP, Chief Administrative and Marketing Officer at NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises; Catherine Davila, Head of Marketing and Community for Angel City FC; Eglantina Zingg, Founder and President of Goleadoras Foundation; and Caroline O’Connor, President of Business Operations, Miami Marlins. Monica Gil emphasized the rising attendance, ratings, and fandom in women’s sports, creating opportunities for brands. Catherine Davila discussed carving a unique space for fans, while Eglantina Zingg highlighted the corporate recognition of diversity as a profitability factor. Caroline O’Connor stressed the importance of representation both on and off the field, underlining the key to success for every business aligning with their audience.

4. Special Awards Presented at L’ATTITUDE 2023

  • The L’ATTITUDE Gala featured the annual L’ATTITUDE Leadership Award, presented to John Leguizamo for his outstanding career and contributions to the community. John discussed the importance of creating spaces for Latin content, addressing the need for better representation in media.

  • The L’ATTITUDE Classic basketball tournament's championship game honored Manu Ginobili, Pepe Sanchez, and Fabricio Oberto recognizing their contributions as athletes, businessmen, and philanthropists.

  • L’ATTITUDE introduced the Dr. Louis Olivas Chair in Management at ASU W. P. Carey School of Business, naming Veronica Villena as the first professor to hold the Chair. Dean Ohad Kadan praised both scholars for their community-oriented scholarship.

  • L’ATTITUDE celebrated the influence of Latinas in The New Mainstream Economy, unveiling the 50 Most Powerful Latinas in the U.S. list in collaboration with ALFPA, recognizing their significant impact on American lives, both publicly and behind the scenes.

5. L'ATTITUDE 2023 Annual Latina Luncheon Game Changers

The event began with an intimate conversation between Gloria Estefan and Sol Trujillo, where Gloria's journey emphasized embracing one's roots and authenticity. Gloria's determination to remain true to herself, even in the face of industry skepticism, resonated profoundly.

Esteemed participants, including Gloria, shared their resilience and brilliance in Latina leadership. Moderated by Marysol Castro, the panel featured Nina Vaca, Lilli Gil Valetta, Mina Pacheco Nazemi, and Sandra Rivera, showcasing their invaluable experiences and perspectives in a concise and impactful dialogue.

6. L’ATTITUDE Issues a Call To Action to News Organizations

The 2023 LDC-NAHJ U.S. Latinos in Journalism Report, was unveiled at L’ATTITUDE, shedding light on the underrepresentation of Latinos in key roles across broadcast, print, and digital news outlets. With Latinos comprising 20% to 30% of the potential audience, the report highlights the urgent need for proportional representation in decision-making positions, underscoring the significant financial opportunities within the U.S. Latino market.?

The U.S. Latinos in Journalism Report serves as a call to action for news organizations, encouraging them to use the findings as a catalyst to achieve proportional U.S. Latino representation in leadership roles and, ultimately, seize the financial growth opportunity within the news industry, which is the U.S. Latino market..

7. NBCUniversal's Exceptional Approach

Cesar Conde, Chairman of NBCUniversal News Group, shared NBCUniversal's commitment to diverse representation. Their inclusive approach has led to remarkable success, making them a beacon of change in the media landscape. In a Fireside Chat with Sol Trujillo, Cesar told the audience, “We have to represent all the communities we’re trying to serve .. both in front of and behind the camera. We are creating content by Hispanics for Hispanics right here in the United States”.
