Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month! ??

This month is dedicated to raising awareness about breast cancer, sharing important facts, and empowering individuals to take proactive steps for their health. The National Breast Cancer Foundation furthers these goals by providing resources—such as FAQs and free educational materials—to spread knowledge and support those affected by breast cancer ??.

Understanding the risks, symptoms and preventive measures is crucial in the fight against breast cancer. Let’s take a moment to test our knowledge and learn key facts about potential risk factors and how to reduce them. Together, we can make informed decisions and support the cause!

Test Your Breast Cancer Knowledge:

Is dairy (milk) linked to a higher risk of breast cancer?

Current nutrition guidelines for dairy milk consumption may warrant some caution. Limited evidence suggests that higher dairy milk intake is associated with a greater risk of breast cancer. A 2020 study indicated that drinking dairy milk could increase this risk. However, experts advise considering prior research before eliminating milk or dairy products entirely. Before this study, the American Institute for Cancer Research found no evidence linking dairy or dairy milk to breast cancer risk.

Is hair dye linked to a higher risk of breast cancer?

Researchers have long studied the possible link between hair dye and cancer, but results have been inconsistent. A 2019 study by the National Institutes of Health suggests that breast cancer risk increases with more frequent use of chemical hair products. The study found that women who use permanent hair dye and chemical hair straighteners have a higher risk of developing breast cancer than those who don’t use these products.

Can breastfeeding reduce the risk of breast cancer?

Breastfeeding can reduce the risk of developing breast cancer, but requires breastfeeding to be continuous for a relatively long time.

Raise awareness this month by sharing knowledge and staying informed! Learn more about how you can get involved.

App Update

ICON Rolls Out Credentialing Module

We are pleased to announce that the credentialing module, as highlighted in our September newsletter, is now being rolled out and made available. As part of this update, providers will notice new menu options on their landing page, specifically "Documents Folders" and "Reports."

In the Documents Folder, providers will have access to both "General Documents" and "Facility Documents." The General Documents section offers a convenient overview of all your documentation, where you can easily upload new documents or update existing ones. We’ve also added notification reminders to alert you when important documents are approaching expiration.

In the Facility Documents section, you will find documentation related to each facility where you are credentialed. Initially, many of these sections may be empty as our credentialing team begins to populate them with your documentation.

Under the "Reports" section, you will find pre-built reports that allow you to generate lists of expired documents, upcoming reappointments, and your work history.

For further assistance or questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your credentialing specialist.
