In October 2024, the total industrial feed production in China reached 27.42 million tons, representing a month-on-month decrease of 2.7% and a year-on-year decline of 5.4%. The ex-factory prices of major compound feeds and concentrated feeds showed a downward trend both month-on-month and year-on-year, while the prices of additive premix feeds saw a slight year-on-year decline. The use of corn in compound feed production accounted for 39.3%, an increase of 1.1 percentage points compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, the proportion of soybean meal used in compound and concentrated feed was 12.6%, a decrease of 0.3 percentage points year-on-year.

First, regarding national industrial feed production, the total production in October was 27.42 million tons. Among this, compound feed accounted for the largest share at 25.57 million tons, concentrated feed was 1.10 million tons, and additive premix feed was 610,000 tons. On a month-on-month basis, total production declined by 2.7%. Specifically, compound feed production decreased by 2.4%, concentrated feed dropped by 7.0%, and additive premix feed experienced the largest decline at 8.0%. Year-on-year, all feed categories saw declines in production. Total production decreased by 5.4%, with compound feed falling by 5.4%, concentrated feed dropping by 7.4%, and additive premix feed showing a relatively modest decline of 0.5%. These figures suggest that the demand for additive premix feed remained relatively stable, while concentrated feed faced significant demand challenges.

Next, looking at the average prices of compound feed from feed enterprises, the average price of finishing pig feed in October 2024 was 3.30 yuan/kg, a month-on-month decrease of 0.7% and a year-on-year decline of 11.2%. The average price of layer feed for peak egg production was 3.07 yuan/kg, with a marginal month-on-month decrease of 0.1% and a significant year-on-year decrease of 12.5%. Broiler feed averaged 3.06 yuan/kg, down 0.5% month-on-month and 11.6% year-on-year. Feed for mature grass carp was priced at 4.72 yuan/kg, down 0.6% month-on-month and 9.0% year-on-year. Month-on-month changes indicate minor price fluctuations across all categories, with decreases ranging from 0.1% to 0.7%. However, year-on-year changes show significant declines in prices across all types of feed, ranging from 9.0% to 12.5%, reflecting noticeable market pressure likely due to falling raw material costs or intensified market competition.

Finally, regarding the average prices of concentrated feed and additive premix feed, the price of concentrated feed for finishing pigs was 5.00 yuan/kg, a month-on-month decrease of 0.8%. The price of layer feed for peak egg production was 3.51 yuan/kg, remaining relatively stable with only a 0.1% decrease month-on-month. Broiler concentrated feed was priced at 4.19 yuan/kg, down 0.5% month-on-month. In the additive premix feed category, the price of finishing pig feed was 5.14 yuan/kg, a month-on-month decrease of 0.6%. The price of layer feed for peak egg production was 4.12 yuan/kg, down 0.2% month-on-month, while broiler feed was 4.29 yuan/kg, down 0.8% month-on-month. Other categories of additive premix feed also saw slight decreases, such as 5% egg layer feed priced at 6.03 yuan/kg, down 0.3% month-on-month. Overall, the month-on-month declines in both concentrated and additive premix feed prices were within 1%, indicating relatively stable demand in the market.
