?? If she’s paying rent for refrigerator space and your equipment failed, you should pay it. Your equipment needs to be reliable. All of our refrigerators and freezers have monitors, so if the temps get too warm, I get a text message before the food goes bad. ?
?? Depends on how much food it was and if you want to come out of pocket or file an insurance claim. I had something similar happen, and one time, I just paid for it so my premium wouldn’t go up, but another time, it was enough for me to file a claim as the kitchen equipment failed. ?
?? In general, your commercial kitchen policy won't have spoilage coverage. It is a specific coverage and limit. Even if you do, the property spoiled is not yours. You need to have an insurable interest. Now, if they can establish negligence on you, they might be able to file a liability claim. In most cases, assuming you maintain the fridge, they have no option but their own insurance. If they bought a low-cost flip policy, there is no spoilage coverage. But at the same time, there are deductibles that apply, and a small business might not have over $500 in product. I recommend Wi-Fi monitoring and a contract that makes it clear they are responsible. I do not steer them to a website to buy insurance, so it does not come back to you as recommending coverage. ?
