Marketplaces generate 69% of European cross-border sales

In the financial year 2023/2024, the whole European online cross-border market achieved sales of 326 billion euros. A large majority, 69 percent, or 225 billion euros came from online marketplaces.

These data come from the fifth edition of the “Top 100 Cross-Border Marketplaces Europe” report from Cross-Border Commerce Europe.

Amazon Sets Rules for Its New Low-Cost Store

Amazon has outlined the requirements for its upcoming Low-Cost Store. It will sell unbranded low-priced items from its warehouses in China directly to shoppers in the U.S.

Amazon Laid the Brandless Foundation for Temu

Amazon taught shoppers to look past brand names, laying the foundation for the rapid growth of Temu. It made buying no-name products the norm, and Temu is now selling them for less.

Amazon is a brandless retailer. Most shoppers do not include a brand name in their searches (they look for “running shoes” rather than “Nike running shoes”), and most products carry a brand name shoppers have never seen before.

It’s not just you: Amazon’s shopping app is trying a different look

Not long after injecting more artificial intelligence into its shopping experience, Amazon is now testing a new homepage for its shopping app on Android and iOS. Millions of users in the US will see changes starting today, with more slated to see them over the coming months.

Fundamentally, the redesign seems to serve the same purpose as the current layout by surfacing personalized recommendations based on your purchase habits, browsing history, deals, and other signals based on your shopping activity.

Amazon UK tightens return policies for international sellers

Amazon is introducing new return policies in the United Kingdom on November 11. International sellers will be required to provide a domestic return address or issue a return label; otherwise, the customer will receive a refund without needing to return the item.

According to Amazon, these new rules are necessary to establish clear guidelines for sellers and simplify the return process for customers.

Shein and Temu growth rates expected to drop

Next year, Asian online marketplaces Shein’s and Temu’s growth rates will drop significantly. This is predicted in a report published by Forrester. The expected decline is related to current complaints about the marketplaces.

Forrester, a research firm based in the United States, often publishes reports about retail in Europe.

OnBuy, a popular pure marketplace from the United Kingdom, has announced its international growth plans. By the end of this year, the rollout of ‘The Cashback Marketplace’ will begin across continental Europe, with the United States following next year.

Since its launch in 2016, OnBuy has grown significantly in the United Kingdom. The company has ranked high on the FT 1000 list of Europe’s fastest-growing companies for several years.
