The NSC has issued a new report on improving crane safety. The report emphasizes the significance of crane-related incidents, noting that “*Across industries, CFOI data indicates there were 5,486 fatal occupational injuries in 2022. The highest number of fatalities (1,620) occurred in the transportation and material moving industry. ”*With the advancement of safety tech, computer vision is proving to be a reliable and accurate solution for identifying crane load fall zones and assessing worker positions relative to them. In fact, 11% of survey respondents reported currently using or having previously used camera analytics in the crane industry, highlighting its benefits. OSHA revealed the top 10 most frequently cited standards for 2024. The much-awaited list was announced at this year’s National Safety Council (NSC) Safety Congress & Expo, providing key insights into the most common workplace safety violations. Leading the list, fall protection requirements topped the charts with 6,307 violations, followed by hazard communication with 2,888, and ladder safety with 2,573 violations. These figures emphasize areas where safety efforts should be intensified, and with safety AI software, there is a growing opportunity to address these risks more effectively.
