Learn about summer internships at DOE national labs Nov. 14
Are you an undergraduate student or recent graduate interested in a summer internship experience at an U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) national laboratory?
Join us virtually on Nov. 14, 1–5 p.m. ET, to learn about DOE's Summer 2025 Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internships (SULI) and Community College Internships (CCI)?programs! These stipend-based 10-week programs provide technical training and research opportunities at DOE national laboratories and other facilities.?
During the event, representatives from DOE national laboratories will be on hand to connect with attendees in 1-on-1 chats. There also will be a live informational session on the CCI and SULI programs.
?? Meet John Kronenberger
As an ORISE participant with the USDA Forest Service Rocky Mountain Research Station, John Kronenberger helped develop genetic tests designed to detect DNA from invasive species in environmental samples.
?? Meet Zakaridja Guiriansoro
Through an ORISE fellowship at the FDA , Zakaridja Guiriansoro analyzed safety studies conducted for drugs used to treat inflammatory or autoimmune conditions.
??? Featurecast Spotlight: Naveed Sekender
Naveed Sekender, an ORISE participant in the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Minority Serving Institution Internship Program, is stationed at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory 's High Performance Computing Department, where he analyzes data sets for programming language translation. Sekender explains that conducting research with supercomputers allows for cutting-edge research, like helping discover drugs that will be effective against viruses like COVID-19. In this ORISE Featurecast episode, Sekender talks about his internship, how his interest in science was spurred and where he hopes to go from here.
ORISE is hosting a research-based challenge for undergraduate students!
The challenge is for students to develop a report in the style of your choice to educate others on your campus’s sustainability practices. Thorough submissions will include research on your campus’s sustainability efforts and their success, as well as personal recommendations for your campus to implement based on findings. Citations should be included. Your report could win you a $5,000 scholarship!
The deadline for this competition is Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2024, and winners will be announced in early January.
