October 2024: Diwali Bash, Leaders' Visit, and More!
Happy Diwali to you and your loved ones! May your hearts and homes be filled with light, happiness, and love. Diwali is one of India’s biggest festivals, celebrated not only across the country but by the Indian diaspora and global communities around the world. But do you know how Diwali came to be? Get ready for story time! ??
In the ancient land of Ayodhya - a prosperous kingdom nestled along the banks of the sacred river Sarayu, there lived a noble prince named Rama, renowned for his unwavering righteousness and courage. Rama's life took an unexpected turn toward sacrifice when his stepmother, Queen Kaikeyi, demanded that he be exiled from the kingdom for fourteen years so that her own son, Bharata, might take the throne. Accepting his fate, Rama set out for the forests, accompanied by his devoted wife, Sita, and his loyal brother, Lakshmana. For years, they lived in the wilderness, enduring hardships and earning the respect and admiration of all who crossed their path.
Their journey soon brought them face-to-face with Ravana, the powerful and arrogant king of Lanka. Upon hearing tales of Sita’s beauty and noble spirit, Ravana grew infatuated and devised a plan to abduct her. Disguised as a beggar, he deceived Sita and abducted her away to his kingdom in Lanka.
Determined to rescue his beloved wife, Rama, with the help of his loyal friend Hanuman and an army of monkeys, waged a fierce battle against Ravana. In the fierce battle that ensued, Rama ultimately slew Ravana, shattering the darkness that had enshrouded Lanka. When news of Rama's victory reached Ayodhya, the kingdom erupted in joy. To celebrate the return of their victorious prince, the people of Ayodhya lined the streets and decorated their homes with rows of oil lamps, known as diyas, casting a golden glow across the entire city.
This tradition has been passed down through generations, and today, Diwali is celebrated throughout India (and globally) as a festival of lights, symbolizing the victory of good over evil, knowledge over ignorance, and hope over despair.
In October, we had a diverse mix of events. On one hand, we welcomed leaders like Chinmai Sharma and Wojciech Gworek to Bengaluru, where they engaged with team members from their respective businesses, setting the strategic direction for next year and beyond. We also enjoyed a range of festive and team-building activities, including a Diwali Bash, Treasure Hunt, and smaller Diwali celebrations within various teams. We also hosted our Hyperjump intern batch of 2025 for a day-long event, giving them a chance to connect with our leaders and previous intern batches, and to learn more about our culture, ahead of their official internship start in January. You can read more details about some of these events in the sections below.
