Marketplaces generate 63% of cross-border turnover
Last year, the total online cross-border market in Europe generated a turnover of 265 billion euros. At least 63 percent, 167 billion euros, was generated by marketplaces. These data include global cross-border sellers, such as Amazon and AliExpress.
These data come from the fourth edition of the “TOP 100 Cross-Border Marketplaces Europe” from Cross-Border Commerce Europe. The study looks into global online cross-border platforms operating across the European Union, including the United Kingdom.

Amazon launches drone delivery in Europe
Amazon announced plans to use drones while delivering packages to customers in the United Kingdom and Italy starting next year, with services set to commence at undisclosed locations before the end of 2024. Selected customers will be able to have items weighing up to approximately 2 kilograms delivered to their gardens by a drone.

European ecommerce to grow 9% annually
The European ecommerce market is expected to reach 1.5 trillion dollar by 2027, according to GlobalData in a new research report. This translates to an average annual growth rate of 9 percent.
It means that European growth is lagging slightly behind the global growth rate, which GlobalData estimates at 9.5 percent. The data and analytics firm predicts that global ecommerce spending will reach 9.3 trillion dollars in 2027, compared to 5.9 trillion dollars in 2022. This represents a total growth of just under 60 percent in five years.

Amazon Paused Global Expansion in 2023
Amazon planned to launch marketplaces in Chile, Colombia, Nigeria, and South Africa in early 2023. It did not launch in any of those new markets.
According to Amazon documents obtained by Eugene Kim of Insider in 2021, Amazon planned to launch in Colombia in February 2023 and Chile in April 2023 as part of codename Project Santos. South Africa, codenamed Project Fela, was expected in February 2023, and Nigeria was set for April 2023.

Amazon now lets advertisers use generative AI to pretty up their product shots
Amazon is beta testing AI image generation tools for its advertisers, offering an easy way to create backgrounds or scenes around whatever product ad buyers are hoping to sell. The company says the new feature is “designed to remove creative barriers and enable brands to produce lifestyle imagery that helps improve their ads’ performance.”
This could prove to be a quick, convenient option for brands that would otherwise be stuck working with boring standalone images of a product against a white background. Amazon says putting products in a lifestyle scene can lead to 40 percent higher click-through rates.

Zalando launched ZEOS: a brand-new service designed to provide fulfillment solutions to fashion and lifestyle retailers. Zalando is now extending its logistic services to both affiliated and non-affiliated sellers.

Renewable energy projects Amazon created 3,900 jobs
Amazon’s renewable energy initiative across Europe had a recent addition of 39 new projects that have significantly bolstered the continent’s clean energy capacity. In 2022 alone, these endeavors brought about 2.4 billion euros in economic investment and created over 3,900 jobs.
These data were announced by the online marketplace today. The newly added projects include 15 solar installations on rooftops of Amazon facilities. As well as 24 utility-scale wind and solar projects, including a solar farm in Greece.

Amazon eliminated plastic packaging at one of its warehouses
Amazon’s promise to quit plastic packing has materialized at one facility in Ohio, but the company provides no timeline for a nationwide rollout.
Amazon is fulfilling a small part of its promise to switch from using plastic bubble mailers and air pillows to all recyclable paper packaging for its shipments. The company announced that it has outfitted one facility in Euclid, Ohio, with an upgraded packaging machine that can automatically fold custom-fit boxes to wrap some products, use paper mailers for small items, and slide in paper fillers instead of plastic ones in standard boxes.

Amazon rallies on cloud optimism as it chases Microsoft for AI business
Oct 27 (Reuters) - Amazon.com rose 7% on Friday on a pick up in growth at its most profitable cloud business as it aims for a larger share of the booming artificial intelligence market in a race with Microsoft.
The e-commerce giant (AMZN.O) was on track to add almost $90 billion to its market capitalization based on its last traded share price of $128. Smaller cloud rival Microsoft (MSFT.O) rose 1.5%, while Alphabet (GOOGL.O) was down about 1.3%.
