Octavia Raheem calls rest "a tool to support us in being more efficient."
This is the newsletter for the Hello Monday podcast. You can listen to today's episode?here, or below:
This month marks two years since I stopped going to a physical office every day. I remember how quickly the change happened. One day, I was complaining about banal stuff like a slow subway. The next, I felt painfully aware of just how fragile and precious life can be.?
In the time since, the very nature of the way we talk about work has changed. We praise the hustle less. Instead, we talk about health and happiness. So many of Hello Monday’s listeners, in particular, are looking for rich, fulfilling careers that also allow us balanced lives. That’s why this year’s theme for all of Hello Monday’s episodes is REINVENTION: we’ve all had to adapt, to change. This year, we’re choosing our changes, figuring out what works for us.
But here’s something important to know: If you’ve been conditioned to the hustle, often working to the point of burnout, changing jobs isn’t going to fix your problems unless you also change yourself.?
Today’s guest is Octavia Raheem. Her book is Pause, Rest, Be: Stillness Practices for Courage During Times of Change. Octavia advises companies on how to incorporate rest and stillness into the lives of their employees. She has so much to show us about how to shift our approach to everything. You can listen to the show above, or on Apple Podcasts here. Then please jump into the comments of this post to weigh in. Do you find ways to rest? What helps you manage the stresses that typify daily life? And, how have you learned this?
