Octane AI Brief:
Hi there,?
I hope this email finds you well!?
I just wanted an excuse to use this meme, one of the best in a while (referencing the “non-humans” shown in Mexico this week) ??
But I digress. We have a lot to share in this week’s Octane AI Brief.?
?
Before you get overwhelmed with BFCM marketing ideas and discount offers, this is the ideal time to highlight exactly what we do at Octane AI: create beautiful quizzes for merchants to capture leads, recommend products, and capture customer data.?
But most importantly, it creates a memorable and personalized customer experience.?
This week I outlined exactly how you can create a quiz with Octane AI.?
Structure Quiz Flow
?
Craft Compelling Questions
?
Curate Engaging Content
Optimizing structure, questions, and content will drive engagement and capture customer insights.
This is just a high level start, read the complete post here:?
?? Quizzes In The Wild: CBD Brand Cornbread?
This week’s Quiz in the Wild comes from Cornbread Hemp. This is an Octane AI quiz, designed to help guide shoppers to the perfect product:?
What's really cool about this quiz is that this is all done by AI: creating the quiz, selecting the product, and personalizing the recommendation to the customer.??
It is this level of detailed personalization, specific to the answers I gave in the quiz, that are the reason brands are seeing 8% to 25% increase in conversion rate:?
A great quiz to study, you can find it here.
And to get a bit meta, I recommend that you take?our?quiz to get an idea of how a quiz can help you ??
?? Shopify Strategies & Ideas??
?
This is a great piece covering the stages of marketing awareness, aka the funnel.?

One part that is particularly relevant is for those in the “Solution Aware” stage. This is a great way to craft a highly tailored and personalized pitch to speak to your customer’s pain points (literally, in this example from Casper).??
“Someone who is solution aware knows they want a better mattress, but they don’t necessarily know how to choose a good mattress.?
So help them out. Once you have their attention, you have the opportunity to highlight features of your product that other products don’t have—when you finally do introduce your product, they’ll be primed to buy”, Benyamin Elias mentions in the article.??
Mattresses are challenging products to sell, as they are in some sense a commodity product, at a high price point and limited buying cycles (a mattress is good for 10 years or more).?
That's why you see brands like Helix Sleep make the call to action a "can't miss" button in two places above the fold:?
Hubspot put together a run down of some great email campaigns?
Like this one from Birchbox, with a synopsis and screenshot of the email strategy and goal.??
Do you ever find that you are in need of inspiration? If your swipe file is tapped out, check out Milled, a search engine for ecommerce email newsletters. You can find all kinds of copy, campaign, and design inspiration, for free!?
Find sales, deals, coupons, and discount codes from 108k+ brands and retailers. So many examples, organized in an easy to understand manner:??
Flexport launched Flexport Revolution, an end-to-end supply chain tool offering freight, fulfillment, replenishment, and financing services tailored for SMBs. The new product builds on capabilities gained through Flexport's acquisition of Shopify Logistics earlier this year.
Ecommerce marketers should check this out because Flexport Revolution provides a simplified, unified platform to manage key supply chain capabilities like inventory replenishment across channels. This can help SMB ecommerce businesses improve and scale their operations.
??? Learn from Experts: Drew Sanocki
?100 Thieves is a DTC brand for gamers. Owners of the brand include Drake and Scooter Braun.?
Drew Sanocki talks with Brandon Park, CMO of 100 Thieves and former CEO of Homesick, about creating brands, rolling up ecom companies, and always showing a profit.
?? eCommerce Round Up: Midjourney for Product Photos?!??
Last week I shared some tips on ChatGPT.?
And we’re starting to see more generative AI images show up from DTC brands.?
Phil Kyprianou had a fascinating offer, creating AI images for brands. Think about the amount of time and money saved if you can create the perfect product shot just by using the right prompt.??
It looks like it's already sold out.....that's an opportunity for any entrepreneurial creatives out there!?
Here is a great tool that I like to help me create better prompts for Midjourney, it’s called Prompt Folder.
Would it be helpful if I created content around generative AI images? As you can see, we are big fans, and include it in every blog post! ?
??? Patrick Campbell: Don’t Overlook Brand?
I completely agree with Patrick Campbell’s point here: create a strong brand to scale to infinity and beyond!
Think about Liquid Death–it’s “just” canned water. But it’s one helluva brand. A great piece on them.?
?? OctaneAI Advisor Wisdom?
Some sage advise from Lillie Sun. Beautiful quote breaking down the path to start up success. Simple, but not easy! We love to talk to our customers, our DMs and replies are open ???
We are so proud to see some of Octane AI’s advisors get together on the stage of Litmus Live. Unfortunately we couldn’t see it Samar, but know that you crushed it!?
?? Parting Thoughts??
I loved this question posed by Sarah Levinger:?
My $0.02 here is that audience targeting on ad platforms can be good, but is still less valuable than information that a customer tells you directly and explicitly.?
How many times have you seen remarketing ads for a product you’ve already purchased? Or seen ads for products completely irrelevant to you? ?
If you are creating your marketing campaigns on zero party data that you’ve gathered straight from the customer, you can be sure that the message and offer are far more likely to be on point.?
Get that zero party data, people! ??
Have a great week!
