Ockam
I’ve spent the last four years crafting IoT systems for cities, airports, farms, buildings and various industrial environments. These device networks were designed to be part of mission critical businesses processes.
Flood sensors to improve emergency response in cities; Parking sensors to curtail traffic congestion; Asset trackers to help airports track critical equipment; Connected lighting to minimize energy use; Irrigation devices to reduce water waste and improve crop yield; Temperature sensors to ensure quality of products within a cold supply chain; etc.
The margin for error, in such applications, is very small. Bad data or delayed delivery of data can be costly, or worse, catastrophic.
A few weeks ago, I joined Matthew Gregory (Ex: Microsoft, Heroku) and Logan Jager (Ex: Citibank) to together build Ockam.
Our goal is to make it easy to develop trusted device networks. The broad IoT ecosystem is heavily fragmented. A complex product lifecycle that involves several parties and the extreme resource constraints of typical low power wireless devices make it very challenging to deploy and defend IoT at scale.
At Ockam, we’re creating a blockchain foundation, for connected devices, to provide the trust that is required for widespread adoption of reliable, autonomous, intelligent networks of machines that will change the world.
