Arty-Fact: Many of Teiji’s figures are alive with symbolism, a tradition in Christian art. His pale, ethereal figures with frail bodies and tinted eyes portray an angelic appearance. This innocence is juxtaposed with a penetrating and unnerving glare directed at the viewer.
Symbols of religious and spiritual devotion, pledges of love, and tattoos are depicted in the portraits. These represent the seat of emotions of the young girls, their convictions, belonging and identification with particular groups.
Do you notice the way she is holding the coral? Could it be symbolic of rosary beads?
