Ocean Wise’s Pollution Tracker: Using EQuIS – 2024 Update

Ocean Wise Conservation Association (Ocean Wise) is a not-for-profit organization based in Vancouver, British Columbia (BC), Canada, whose vision is a world in which oceans are healthy and flourishing.

Ocean Wise uses EQuIS to store and manage the growing contaminants dataset and to facilitate reporting of results for their PollutionTracker program, the first coast-wide contaminant monitoring program in Canada meant to inform various contaminant-related marine research projects.

Ocean Wise adopted EQuIS Online, EarthSoft’s software-as-a-service product on the Microsoft Azure cloud, to support their collaborative efforts with coastal partners because of its easy data retrieval and reliability.

The recent integration of EQuIS REST API facilitates more interactive visual reporting and data sharing capabilities through automated Microsoft Power BI dashboards. Automating reporting involves blank corrections and contaminant total calculations, as well as comparing contaminant levels to Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment (CCME) guidelines within Power BI.

These improvements enable the Pollution Tracker program to efficiently analyze data and make real-time decisions by utilizing enhanced trend analysis and visualizations. These insights can be easily shared with both our partners and supporters.
