Ocean 2.0 and our place in it
In the blink of a geologic eye humans became the keystone species of land and sea. How to understand Ocean 2.0 and our place in it? I’m excited to announce my new text from Princeton University Press: ‘Ocean Ecology. Marine Life in the Age of Humans’.
Despite our dominance, humans are only 1 among perhaps a million species of marine life. Living organisms created our astonishing world from a hot barren rock – and they’re still at it. Biodiversity is a driver, not just a passenger.
There’s a lesson here: the diversity of living species maintains our habitable Earth and climate, and is the key to understanding how the Anthropocene ocean works. This book places biodiversity at the center of ocean ecosystems where it belongs.
Dr. Jennifer Ruesink at University of Washington says “I would recommend - even require – this book for every graduate student in marine ecology … There is no way for a marine ecology instructor to read this book and not incorporate its ideas, explanations, and graphics into their teaching.”
