Is it that 'obvious'?
The five-year-old pre-schooler seemed to have a tough time learning his alphabet. His teacher tried all the tried and tested methods.
Drawing neat lines and patterns and making the boy write the A’s and B’s within those boxes, re-tracing the guiding strokes.
Months of practice, yet as soon as he is presented with a plain paper, he would go back to illegible randomness.
The teacher’s concern slowly turned annoyance. Time she called the boy’s parents to school to discuss the 'learning ability' of the young student.
As the parents arrived, the teacher discussed the issue with them. The parents reacted to it with surprise, as the boy has been writing all the alphabets at home, wonderfully with optimal clarity.
Why is he failing at school?
The teacher called the boy and asked him to write the alphabet in front of his parents.
The innocent boy asked, “Papa ! Should I use the “home” hand or the “school” hand ?”
The parents and teacher looked at each other briefly.
It was not difficult to realize that a naturally left-handed boy is being made to write using his right hand at school.

4 年Beautiful one Bibhuti! We can’t make a fish fly, or a lion climb the trees. You have summarized what people go through in life very beautifully. Moral: understand someone fully before pushing them deep into a certain patch. The teacher should have made an attempt to understand the child, which clearly she didn’t :)

4 年Excellent read, Bibhuti!. As a society, we push conformity and crush many who does not conform.?reminds me of a quote from Mr. Thiam ex CEO of Credit Suisse, “I am who I am,” Mr. Thiam interrupted. “The same way I was born with a right hand, I cannot change being right-handed.” He added, “If people don’t like right-handed people, then I’m in trouble. That’s all I can say because I can’t become left-handed.”
Very nice Bibs. Enjoyed reading it ??

4 年Enjoyed reading it Bibhuti... reminds me of the poets and artists outside who turn into robots after they enter office and companies wonder how can we increase innovation!
