Obstacles to the Promotion of Public Health by Local Government in New South Wales
Liesel Spencer published a piece in Volume 5, Issue 3 of the International Journal of Health and Wellness dissecting the various ways that socio-political blocks have hampered health advocates attempts to respond to epidemic incidence of preventable disease.
"Public health concerns are not currently given adequate priority within the processes of local government. The provision of healthy ‘human habitat’ could be better integrated into local government planning, expenditure and regulatory functions."
"These obstacles are identified using a hybrid methodology of doctrinal legal research to analyse the relevant legislation, combined with a literature-based review of the obstacles to utilising legislative capacity."
Hopefully, our Australian counterparts will take heed and read "Obstacles to the Promotion of Public Health by Local Government in New South Wales."
