Ryan Holiday is one of my favorite writers. In his book,?The Obstacle Is The Way, he examines the struggles of historical, iconic figures and the inspiring resilience they demonstrated during challenging times. He explains how obstacles couldn’t stop them and, more importantly, how these extraordinary people could thrive precisely because of the obstacles.
A classic among professional athletes,?The Obstacle Is The?Way is a guidebook for solving problems that prevent people from achieving their goals and dreams. It’s based on the tenets of Stoicism—an ancient Greek philosophy on how to calm your thinking in challenging situations.
Holiday argues that our subjective judgments cause much of our suffering.
Instead of seeing things as they are, we perceive problems that aren’t necessarily there. Holiday says it takes discipline to separate reliable perceptions from deceptive ones and filter out fear.
What if, instead of creating tension and worrying you, the challenges you face make you more resilient, determined, and energized? When you think of obstacles empoweringly, you can transform them into your most significant assets in life and business.
Holiday says we have a choice, “Will obstacles block us, or will we advance through and over them?” In the end, the obstacle is the way.
Opportunities don't happen. You create them. Happy Wednesday!

2 年That’s an interesting take. As the obstacle does lead to a learning (within the root cause) which, when disconnected, allows us to grow beyond our previous paradigm… rooted in universal truths. The obstacles reveal exponential pathways for growth. So, that’s a pretty solid description; the obstacle marks the path…??
