The Pods experience has felt a little bit like seeing a spider web that has caught the dew overnight; suddenly connections are much more visible and everything sparkles in the light. Through this first month of pods, people have been connecting across timezones, borders, ages, and identities to form relationships based on common interests and questions.?From my seat as some cross between an air traffic controller and a fly on the wall to our almost 90 pods, I wanted to share a few observations from this first month of pods.?
- A little bit of structure goes a long way. The very simple formula for pods opened the door for almost 90 community members to invite people into deep, meaningful conversations. No two pods look the same, but that starting place made space for so much emergence.? ?
- Sometimes all it takes is an invitation. So many pod members and catalysts are seated in these virtual circles because someone took the little leap and invited them. ?
- An email can be read 250 different ways (or not read at all). “End of day” can be an almost 36 hour window depending on when someone reads the email or what time zone they live in. The way each of us reads “commitment” is informed by our experiences, our expectations of each other, and the other things on our plates.? ?
- The right people will show up. Between some technological glitches, time zone hiccups, and schedule changes, some of our first pod meetings haven’t had a full group. I’m hopeful that once people get more into the rhythm of things there will be less of this, but it’s also been heartening to hear about the sense that the people who showed up each time were exactly the right people for that moment.? ?
- The others are out there. Someone shared that pods feel like the magic of a Coralus breakout room, but on another level. If you were wondering if there were people in the community who share your interest or passion, the answer I’m hearing from pods is an unequivocal yes. ?
- It’s not always the right time. Sometimes it’s not the right time for folks to jump in and join or catalyze a pod. If September wasn’t the right time, but October or November (or beyond) might be, please fill out our pod interest form or email [email protected]. We’re working on some Connection Pods, and are open to ideas that you might have to catalyze something new. Please consider this your invitation.
This is just one little peek into what’s emerging from pods; one of our pods is collecting noticings and reflections from pod participants to distill into a collective reflection. Keep an eye out for more on that!
