Observation of National Techies Day

The Fall Season arrived a little over a week ago. Yet, the temperature feels like it’s still Summer. I used to like the warm weather of Summer and would look forward to being outdoor but this has changed. Over the years, the temperature is hotter than usual. Fall has replaced Summer as my favorite season. I simply love Fall colors and its serenity.

Just as I enjoy checking the weekly weather, I enjoy checking National Day Calendar to become aware of upcoming National Days. Yesterday, October 3rd, was National Techies Day. I checked the weather app on my phone. It showed unhealthy air quality and hot temperature. So, I decided to stay indoor to get some tech learning done.

My curiosity got the better of me. In observation of National Techies Day, I Googled it. I read that by 2030, the technology sector will continue to grow while other job sectors may decline. And, while the jobs future changes, one thing remains steady – technology.

As the temperature remained hot for comfort and the air quality less than favorable, the tech search continued. I read up on trends in data and analytics. I read the article “How to Hack Together Your Own CS Degree Online for Free”. I created a list of data analysis courses to upskill on including SQL, Tableau, Looker, and other data analysis tools. Many of these tools I will learn through DataCamp, freecodecamp, LinkedIn Learning, Udemy just to name a few. Lastly, I read up on martech stack.

Data Camp Ad 62% off individual subscription

Organizations worldwide are reacting to the pandemic by offering free online learning resources or at a heavily discounted price. I saw an ad through DataCamp. Image of this to the left. As an avid learner and someone who was born in a developing country, the words "For every annual subscription purchased we’ll donate one to someone in need through one of our nonprofit partners" spoke to me. Yup, I signed up for a year subscription. Thus, I’m scheduling time for upskilling for the remainder of 2020. I approach the learning slow, steady progress over time. Experience has demonstrated small changes add up to big results.

If you’re in search of CompTIA A+ (220-1002) courses, I’d like to recommend Mike Meyers’ Cert Prep series, a comprehensive eight-part series, which I’ve completed through Lynda.com (this will switch to LinkedIn Learning) using my public library card. Also, I highly recommend NPower’s Tech Fundamentals Program .
