Object Control

Over the years one of the most important lessons we have learned is to insist on a Development and Release strategy from software houses. With Dynamics NAV and Business Central most projects will have some customisation needs, with some, the needs are extensive and multiple releases of software impact live environments.
I can think of three very clear examples in the last 7 years, some very recent, where Partners are so poor at releasing software they wipe out months of work while updating Live environments simply because they haven't got their ducks in a row.
Despite clients following the right protocols around testing and signing off developments into live, it is down to the software house to ensure "Object Control" is put into place otherwise both Test and Live environments can be impacted. Especially so if there are multiple developers serving the clients needs at the same time.
When we are serving our clients Object Control is very definitely a point of discussion right up front, and sometimes despite this, and the reassurances received from software houses projects have been let down by a lack of discipline around this key project control point, causing undue stress and delay.
Although this is a well recognised point of control it is still an issue that occurs often enough so worth a mention.
