David Schenkein, MD

Last year we talked about 2 important terms that have the potential to make a real difference in the types of medicine that will become available over the next period of time (Precision Medicine and Breakthrough Therapy). Precision medicine is the ability to use a marker from the blood or other tissue to help identify the right medicine for the right patient at the right time. This approach will benefit all the relevant stakeholders- most importantly it will make a huge impact for patients as our medicines become more effective and safer. In yesterdays New York Times, it is reported that President Obama will be seek funding for a precision medicine initiative. This is great news for patients.
