Oakley Partnership: Enabling achievement as the General Chiropractic Council meets full regulatory compliance after intensive review.
Oakley Partnership
Supporting clinicians and organisations to create authentic, inclusive spaces.
We’re excited to celebrate the General Chiropractic Council's achievement in meeting all 18 standards of good regulation, as assessed by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA) [Read the report here]. This is the first time in five years that the GCC, the UK’s smallest healthcare regulator, has met all of the benchmarks. Oakley Partnership is proud to have been an essential partner to the GCC on this transformational journey, helping to deliver on their 15-point Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) action plan.
The PSA helps to protect the public through working with organisations that register and regulate people working in health and social care. They are an independent body overseeing health and social care regulators in the UK, accountable directly to the UK Parliament. Organisations that meet their standards have undergone an intensive period of evaluation of their policies, practices and overall performance against these standards. The GCC's success underscores its unwavering commitment to upholding high regulatory standards and effective governance in chiropractic care.
Since November 2022, we’ve been proudly partnered with the GCC to help develop and implement their ambitious EDI action plan, ensuring that key objectives are delivered in a timely manner. We are thrilled to see that the PSA made particular mention of the GCC’s significant positive progress in promoting EDI within the chiropractic profession, with our expert guidance propelling the GCC beyond its initial expectations.
Our projects with the GCC have been varied and ambitious, helping them to navigate a complex and often contentious field. From registrant and external stakeholder surveys, thematic reviews of Investigating Committee cases, brand guidelines and website reviews, operational reviews for protected characteristics, and the development of guidance and toolkits, our work has been far-reaching and impactful. We have also worked to ensure that future areas of focus are identified to position the GCC well for the future as they regulate an increasingly diverse chiropractic profession and continue to build on work done to date.

Penny Bance , Director of Development at the GCC, stated, “Oakley Partnership have worked closely with us, bringing much-needed expertise and enthusiasm to our EDI work and enabled us to deliver on our ambitious EDI Action Plan, both for our own organisational development but for the benefit of the chiropractic profession.”
Not only have this year's targets for the EDI Action Plan been met, but we have also initiated forward-looking scoping projects for the future. These endeavours demonstrate the General Chiropractic Council's proactive stance in safeguarding the chiropractic profession and the GCC for the future within this critical domain, and we are delighted to support them in this commitment.
