An Oak that grew on the bank of a river was uprooted by a severe gale of wind and thrown across the stream.
It fell among some Reeds growing by the water and said to them, “How is it that you, who are so frail and slender, have managed to weather the storm, whereas I, with all my strength, have been torn up by the roots and hurled into the river?”
“You were stubborn,” came the reply, “and fought against the storm, which proved stronger than you, but we bow and yield to every breeze, and thus the gale passed harmlessly over our heads.”
You may wonder why I'm writing about this very old Aesop fable.
The thing is, sometimes our egos boycott us, and we tend to be against any possible change in our projects or ideas.
This fable beautifully illustrates that strength isn't just about being rigid and unyielding; real strength often lies in flexibility and adaptability.
It's like saying, "It's okay to bend a little when life throws a curveball your way."
The oak, with all its might and firmness, couldn't survive the storm because it was too rigid to adapt to the changing circumstances.

The reeds, though seemingly weaker, showed true resilience by bending with the wind.
This idea translates wonderfully into our everyday lives, especially when dealing with stress or adversity.
It suggests that being open to change and flexible in our approach can often lead to better outcomes than stubbornly sticking to one way of thinking or acting.
In terms of calming the mind, this fable is a gentle reminder that sometimes the best way to handle stress or challenges is not by putting up a hard front but by being adaptable, learning to let go a bit, and moving with the flow of things.
It's about understanding that change is a natural part of life and that our ability to adapt to these changes, rather than resist them, is what often brings peace and calm to our minds.

So, be like the reeds in the river: flexible, adaptable, and resilient. It's a beautiful way to navigate life's storms with a calm and composed mind.
