Local Updates
- Auckland Council have approved Phil Goff’s budget which plans the largest ever investment in Auckland’s infrastructure over the next 10 years. More info here.
- H&M has confirmed 30 August 2018 as the opening date for its flagship 3,500 sqm store in Auckland's Commercial Bay development. More info here.
- Community groups are exiting Devonport’s historic council chambers. The move has occurred in parallel to Panuku looking at whether to retain or sell the 110 year old building. More info here.
- Christchurch’s Court Theatre has been decontaminated after asbestos was found in an old section of the building. Worksafe had issued prohibition notices and closed off affected areas of the building following complaints earlier this year. More info here.
- Two developers have bought a 386 hectare site near Porirua, Wellington. They plan to develop it into Wellington's newest suburb. More info here.
Overseas Updates
- McDonalds have officially opened their new headquarters in Chicago. The company moved its 2,000 employees into a 45,000 sqm building in the city’s restaurant district. More info here
- The National Park Service in the US is making plans to relocate its Pacific West Regional Office from San Francisco to Washington. The move responds to difficulties in recruiting staff due to high living costs in San Francisco. More info here.
- Sears will close at least 63 more Sears and Kmart stores as sales fall and losses widen. Over the past 12 months the company has already closed more than 400 stores. More info here.
- Uber has released images of their new Greenlight Hub offices in Brisbane. View photos here.
- WeWork has signed a 20-year lease for more than 12,000 sqm of office space in London’s Aviation House. The co-working operator currently has 24 open locations and over 26,000 members in London. More info here.
