Nylon 6 or Nylon 66 which is Better
Nylon 6 is made from one monomer which has 6 carbon atoms whilst Nylon 66 is made from 2 monomers with each one having 6 carbon atoms, that is why it is called Nylon 6,6
We are using them in Axminster, and?Carpet Tiles,?and are often confused about?which is better. If rumors are?to be believed nylon 66 has an edge due to better mechanical strength stiffness heat and wear resistance.?Also, it has a?lower moisture absorption rate than nylon 6 which means it is less affected by changes in moisture in the?atmosphere.
Nylon 66 is the most commonly used fiber out of all Nylon derivatives.
Without any additives, it retains strength across the widest range of temperatures and the highest level of moisture exposure than any other nylon derivatives.
It had good abrasion resistance and the lowest permeability to mineral oils, gas, and fluorocarbon refrigerants which makes it a good usage fiber.
Nylon 66 is also reported to have better chemical resistance to saturated calcium chloride, and many reports suggest that 6/6 has better weathering properties too.
But Nylon 6 excels in damper conditions, having better impact strength and flex fatigue than Nylon 66.
It can also be processed at a lower temperature and is less crystalline in structure, meaning mold shrinkage is reduced.
But the best part clients are not aware of is nylon 6 is the?strongest fire-resistant fabric with a denier range of 1000-3000 and?can handle very high temperatures.
So, both have their pros and both have their cons. And both are perfectly ok to be used in our carpets. ?
