NYC Tourism Recovery

The city that once was dubbed a "ghost town" during the pandemic has come back to life with residents and tourists returning en masse. At the City Guide's Annual Tourism Seminar, industry leaders and executives gathered to discuss the city's tourism status. Fred Dixon, CEO of New York & Company, spoke about the recovery of domestic tourism, which has mostly returned to pre-pandemic levels.

In 2022, New York welcomed 56 million tourists and this number is expected to increase in 2023, with a predicted 61 million visitors to the city. Although this is still below the record-breaking 66.6 million tourists in 2019, it marks a significant improvement from recent years.

The rise in tourism can already be seen in the sales reports of Broadway, hotels, and attractions. The holiday season was a success, with many businesses reaching or exceeding pre-pandemic levels in December. Tourists can take advantage of two-for-one deals on top attractions and Broadway shows, as well as hotel discounts.

In addition to the booming tourism, crime levels in the city have also declined. Although overall crime was up in 2022, the index crime for Q4 was down 1.5% compared to the same quarter in 2021. This provides a safe and enjoyable experience for visitors to the Big Apple.
