New York City is currently grappling with its first significant snowfall of the year, the Sanitation Department has mobilized its plows, marking the first time they've been deployed in two years. The effort is being bolstered by Transportation Department and MTA crews, all working diligently to maintain clear passage on bridges and tunnels.
As of 1 p.m., snow accumulation across the boroughs has reached at least 2 inches, with some areas potentially seeing up to 6 inches. Here's a summary of their progress based on the DSNY plow tracker:
Plow activity in Manhattan:
Plowing efforts have intensified on the island of Manhattan, particularly in Washington Heights and Harlem, where trucks have been actively clearing snow within the past hour. However, the Upper West Side still appears to have limited plow coverage, and sections of the financial district have not been attended to for over an hour.
Mounting snow in Brooklyn:
The majority of Brooklyn has seen plowing activity within the last three hours, with trucks gradually tapering off as the asphalt becomes visible amidst the slush and with occasional sun peeks through the clouds. However, according to the tracker, areas such as Bed-Stuy, Sunset Park, and much of south Brooklyn have not been attended to by plows for two to three hours.
Assistance needed in Queens:
In Queens, Forest Hills and Jackson Heights continued to receive attention from plow crews into Tuesday afternoon. However, overall plowing activity across Queens has decelerated as the snowfall subsided. Neighborhoods such as Sunnyside, Long Island City, Corona, and College Point have not seen plows for three hours.
Activity decreasing in the Bronx:
Plowing has also slowed in the Bronx. The Williamsbridge neighborhood has not been attended to by plows for three hours, while much of the South Bronx saw plowing within the past hour.

Plow activity slowed in Staten Island:
Cleanup efforts have been underway in previously underserved areas of Staten Island, particularly in Richmond County. In Tottenville, located at the southern tip of the island, trucks have made another pass within the last hour. However, plowing activity has slowed in most of Staten Island, including areas like New Brighton, Manor Heights, and New Dorp.
