In NY, it's a Felony for DMV Officials To Share Illegal Immigrant Driver Data
Driving is a way of life in the United States whether you're here legally or not. It should be encouraged that all drivers are licensed and have insurance if they're going to be on the road.
Here, NY is sending a message that if illegal immigrants are doing what's beneficial to society, i.e., being a competent driver and having insurance in case something bad happens, then their information is not going to be handed over to ICE.
But, did NY really need to make it a Felony? Why not just say, "Don't do that, information handed over by that is going to be fruit of the poisonous tree, and cannot be used against illegal immigrants" Why must officials be threatened with jail time for it? Is it going too far?
