nWay , a premier developer and publisher of competitive multiplayer games and subsidiary of Animoca Brands , today shared insights about their imminent launch, Wreck League. A unique development in esports, this Web3-fueled game allows players to design, possess, and fight with their exclusive Mech fighters.

Touted as the next big thing in esports, Wreck League surpasses conventional gaming standards by granting gamers the autonomy to construct their own Mech fighters, compete using them, and win on-chain rewards. The initial season of the game will collaborate with Yuga Labs , a renowned Web3 brand.

The game proposes a two-pronged design, offering standalone Web2 and Web3 versions. nWay’s marketing tactics are fine-tuned to attract a broad audience, applying successful user acquisition methods from their previous games and avoiding complex blockchain terminologies.

“Wreck League is a hybrid Web3 and Web2 project,” elucidated Taehoon Kim, CEO of nWay. “Our aim is to unite the communities and players, leveraging the creative potential of the Web3 community to continuously enhance the game’s content.”

The gaming community will consist of creators, owners, and players who can collaborate to participate in league events. High-performance Mechs are composed of 10 separate Mech Parts NFTs, and these Mechs can be disassembled, offering endless customization. Creators possessing the best Mechs are predicted to team up with proficient players for high-stake competitions.

A no-cost version of Wreck League, which does not necessitate NFT ownership, will also be available, aiming to bridge the gap between the Web3 and traditional gaming communities.

To foster a thriving community and player retention, Wreck League strategically leverages the power of real-time multiplayer PvP gaming to attract new users and motivate existing ones to invite friends. The game’s unique strategy facilitates collaboration between Web3 creators and Web2 gamers, diversifying the player base. In-game progression is incentivized through upgradable mech parts, enhancing gameplay, and including asset ownership. The more effort players put into improving their assets and advancing levels, the harder it is for them to quit the game. Participation in events and tournaments further intensifies user commitment.

Yat Siu, the co-founder and executive chairman of Animoca Brands, holds a positive view of Wreck League’s potential influence on the esports industry. He believes that the game, which empowers players to own their digital assets, will catalyze a remarkable evolution in competitive gaming.

“Wreck League marks the culmination of two years of dedicated development by nWay, one of the best real-time, cross-play fighting game studios in the industry. Incorporating the Bored Ape Yacht Club, and Otherside universe as well as utilizing ApeCoin, Wreck League is not only a game that is very likely the most advanced AAA real-time PvP game in the Web3 gaming market today, it also has incredible potential to become a significant esports title due to its competitive multiplayer system.” said Siu.

Mech NFT owners also have the ability to create non-NFT versions of their Mechs for sale in the Web2 game’s store, with a part of the revenue from these sales going to the original Mech NFT owners.

The Web3 version is tailored for Mech NFT owners, proposing a two-week leaderboard tournament starting with the minting of the mechs. Players can compete at specified times, gaining or losing points based on the outcome. Rankings will be determined by points, and at the close of the tournament, on-chain rewards will be given. These range from special 1of1 NFTs for top performers to diverse rewards for up to the 30,000th player, which include mech sets, legendary boxes, and mech parts, intensifying the tournament’s excitement and competition.

Wreck League adds a novel spin to fighting games. Instead of limiting players to a fixed lineup of fighters, they can create their own Mech fighters, leading to over 1.5 quadrillion unique battle combinations. For its debut season launching in September, the game will incorporate four Yuga Labs collections: Bored Ape Yacht Club, Mutant Ape Yacht Club, Bored Ape Kennel Club, and Otherside Kodas.

Mech Parts, which are NFTs collected and assembled by players, can be combined to create a complete Mech character NFT. Notably, the game will also introduce rare Yugaverse Mechs, adding an element of exclusivity to in-game achievements.

“We are thrilled for nWay to join The noncanonical Extended Yugaverse,” said Spencer Tucker, chief gaming officer of Yuga Labs. “Building a thriving, interoperable ecosystem is at the heart of Web3. Wreck League’s use of Yuga’s collections charts that course, and we are excited to see them work towards delivering a compelling gaming experience and additional utility for holders of these collections.”
