NVIDIA's indirect partnership with Google, Microsoft & Baidu - The book - Chip Wars! And The Actual lesson in Strategy and Mixed Games

A couple of days back I wrote this in my substack for my book readers -

The journalist Karen Hao in Wall Street Journal has covered Baidu's attempt to make?ChatGPT look-a-like, Microsoft?is building a new empire with ChatGPT-BING partnership and Google's BARD is silently?moving at slow pace with 2nd mover strategy and actually BARD is performing much better now with Sundar Pichai’s new initiative - Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai asked employees to spend two to four hours to test its responses..

While the market is experiencing a paradigm shift with NLP/NLG and LLMs, most of the ChatGPT applications including Baidu's application (Earnie) is based?on NVIDIA GPUs and Hardware. So is, Google's partnership with?Mercedes Benz?again involves NVIDIA?now.

What 英伟达 is doing right now in winning the game is an ideal example of Mixed Game Theory with some Strategic Dominance.

In his book, Chip Wars, Chris miller explores the struggle over computer chips and hardware between the major players in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) market. Miller draws on extensive research, industry reports, and an extensive network of contacts to examine the key players in this tech race, from Intel and Samsung to the likes of Microsoft and Google, to understand their strategies and motivations for the fight. At the heart of this competition is control over the industry-dominating chips—graphics processors and central processing units that can be found in almost every computer and smartphone. Major players in this field battle to push their products to market first, either by developing their own or buying out other companies to gain their exclusive technology. The battle for this hardware has become heated as the stakes in the AI game have grown larger, making it important for companies to get their hands on the newest, fastest, and most powerful chips. Companies such as Google, Microsoft, and Apple are investing heavily in new chip designs and building their own factories to produce them in-house, giving them an advantage over the competition. Meanwhile, Intel, the largest chip maker, finds itself increasingly threatened by rising competition, particularly from the likes of ARM, a British chip maker with a strong foothold in the mobile device industry. Miller illustrates the complexity of the well-funded battle for AI chips and hardware, and the millions of dollars at stake. With his keen insight into the issues driving the industry, he provides a comprehensive overview of the current state of the AI industry, and offers strategies to help smaller companies and upstarts keep up with the larger giants in this tech race.

What the book forgets is Nvidia has been building an empire silently (Nvidia is mentioned only once on Page 238)!

Never underestimate the dark horse!! (Meaning of Dark Horse - a candidate who nobody was thinking about but unexpectedly wins or succeeds)!

That's it. A small post for the weekend!
