Nutrition: Radically Free From Conventional Thinking

Welcome back to this third in the series on Health & Wellness which we're tackling through these dog days of Summer! It's my birthday, and I'll write what I want to! At 42-years young, I'm looking to make the next 42 as vibrant as the first. And it begins with the knowledge contained in this week's post. I know you'll find it "youseful!" Listen on the go to this 9:41 read here .

*Note: this b-day pic is a placeholder for my b-day cake, which my wife refused to let me see before the candles were put on it later in the day! Marriage,??. My youngest girl, 8, baked me a delicious red velvet cake with cream cheese icing. Yum!

Let's Get On With It!

Are you into DocuSeries films as much as I am? I love them. Can't get enough exploring new aspects of our world I've never been introduced to. Watching the College World Series, instead? Not me...no interest. I'd rather pluck my eye-lashes one-by-one!

I love watching DocuSeries on pretty much any topic.

Especially when they're as well produced as the series Human: The World Within, streaming on Netflix now (it's a six-part series at about an hour each). It was produced by PBS in 2021 (IMDB and PBS channel on YouTube have other versions for your viewing pleasure). I highly encourage allocating some time, as it really ties together the importance of all I'm writing about on the daily posts, and weekly InfoLetter, for the next 9 weeks, and from the previous 2 weeks, between Memorial Day and Labor Day this year. On Labor Day we'll pivot to the Wealth Pillar and specifically within it Jobs, Efforts, & Taxes (JET) through Thanksgiving.

And I promise you it's all related to the other pillars of our Liberty Accelerator Program structure, including Self & Identify pursuits as well as Wealth matters as each pertain to this thing many incorrectly refer to as "Military Transition." Because, please recall, the military doesn't transtion, people do!

And it's transformation that's required, which this week's post will help you with.

Anti-Oxidants & Free Radicals

We're scratching the surface of Antioxidants and Free Radicals with this week's miracle bomb.

Are you familiar with these things?

I wasn't until about a month ago, when I attended a conference and learned how deficient in knowledge I was about the foodstuffs I'm feeding myself and my family, and woefully undereducated in the household products we've been exposing ourselves to for decades.

Much of the stuff is hazmat! I couldn't believe it! I called the landfill front office here in Fort Bend County to ask if I could put my cleaning supplies out for the garbage truck, and the lady asked if I was a business or a residence.

I asked, "Why does that matter?" And the lady responded "Well, businesses cannot put those cleaners out, whereas residents can." So I said, "Well, if I'm environmentally conscious, would sending them to the dump be the right thing to do?" And of course she responded, "Well, no."

That concerned me, and made me wonder how dangerous exposure to these chemicals over time actually is. For now, though, we'll pivot our attention to free radicals.

I thought about my pivot from big-box conglomerate foodstuffs and grocery store fruits and vegetables (and processed, pre-packaged foods) over the past year. I realized unintentionally that the things I was eating and drinking for "cheap" cost may actually not be best for my human systems. In February 2021, just over a year ago, I changed our wine subscription from a major national retailer to a relatively unknown distributor known for "clean-crafted" wine who sources their products from pesticide-free vineyards with no additives in the bottles.

We began growing our own vegetables and planted fruit trees to become less dependent upon the grocer supply chains AND increase the nutrition of the foods we're putting in our family members bodies. The peppers, leafy greens, and tomatoes are delicious, by the way!

Free Radicals

Every day the cells that compose our body are being bombarded by free radicals. What's a free radical, you're asking?

Free radicals are waste products produced by cells and play a primary role in aging, and enhance the development of disease or weakening the immune system. Understanding free radicals is essential to living in a manner that allows the body an opportunity to heal itself and support an active, fulfilling lifestyle into 7, 8, or 9 decades of life fully alive.

Free radicals have been known about for several decades, but because the lifespan of a free radical is one-millionth (0.000001) of a second, they've been hard to measure and even harder to observe. Fortunately, over the past decade, technology developments have enabled measurement of free radicals and their observation, too.

My having a submarine force background (in operational planning, logistics, and supply chain...you submariners like to eat and appreciate your parts, right?), I equate free radicals for the nuclear engineer reading or listening today as the impurities in the primary and secondary loop that creep up and necessitate "maintenance" of the coolant that keeps the reactor core safe. Impurities (free radicals) hurt the nuclear loop systems, and the chemicals added to the loops protect it from damage (in this case, anti-oxidants).

For you aviators, equate this to impurities in your fuel system. How's poor fuel going to enhance the life of the turbojets on that aerospace vehicle you're so infatuated with? The same goes for our bodily systems.

Our body's metabolic process (that is, simply "living") creates free radicals. Equate the free radical as "waste" produced at the cellular level. Free radicals are to a living creature as exaust is from a combustion engine. If the waste isn't neutralized, it's deadly. For the human body, free radical impacts are not immediate. But over time, free radicals cause cells to age and eventually kill us, or accelerate the aging process toward our inevitable death.

Our goal this summer is learning how to minimize the negative impact free radicals have on our physical body, and minimizing the number of free radicals our cells are exposed to.

Doing so can lead to a more vibrant life and a clearer mind, so we can wake up each morning excited about tackling hard problems and return to bed each night having known we lived our best over the last 15-17 hours. Doing that day after day, week after week, month after month and season to season is how we extend our lives 4, 5, to 6 or more decades into the future, able to enjoy today while preparing for tomorow.

Antioxidants to the Rescue

Antioxidants stop the chain reaction of each free radicals creating more free radicals by stealing an electron from molecules. The chain reaction does damage to each molecule in turn, creating millions of damaging free radicals in a matter of seconds. Examples of antioxidants include:

Vitamin C; Selenium; Copper; Iron; Manganese; Zinc; CoQ10; DHA; EPA; Lycopene; Cranberry; Blueberry; Turmeric; Ginger; Olive fruit; Green tea; Grape seed; and more

A continual supply of antioxidants is required to continually mitigate the impact of the constant bombardment of free radicals. It's simply a fact of life. If unchecked, one free radical creates millions of others within seconds. This endless chain of reaction can be stopped by infusing our body with a plentiful supply of nutrition and antioxidants in the bloodstream at all times.

Nutrition is Key

Leaning on our previous week's posts concerning nutrition, vitamins, and minerals, the entire discussion comes down to chemistry in our bodies. The chemistry that's happening is a function of our bodily makeup (our DNA) combined with what we're putting in our bodies (nutrients, vitamins, and minerals) and on our bodies (makeup, lotions, sunscreens, etc.) and breathing into our bodies (cleaning supplies, garden and yard pesticides, e.g.).

All of these variables come together to weaken or strengthen our cells and improve or degrade our immune systems. That leads to living life fully alive every day, or struggling to get out of bed and make it back to our pillows 15 hours later. Hours compound into days that compound into weeks, months, seasons, and years. We're either loving it or not. Which are you?

If the latter, consider your bodily chemistry...it could be a serious domestic threat that you are unable to see, literally.

We've got one, and only one, life. Are you busy living, or busy dying?

How are you living yours through intentional decisions about the nutrition of your body, and that of your family's?

Summary

Antioxidants terminate free radical activity, rendering them harmless while extending cell longevity. Antioxidants come from the vitamins, minerals, and nutrients we're feeding ourselves through our mouth, our nose, and our skin. If you're more interested in pinching pennies on the cheapest goods you can find at the big box retailers, well, it's costing you in more ways than one. There is price and there is cost. These are two different things.

Are low prices, and a scarcity mindset, costing you living life fully alive?

To Your Wellness,

Thank you, Thomas Seest

Listened to the article on the way in to work, thanks for sharing! Several books and documentaries highlight food production in the US. A topic I'm definitely interested in.

Not directly relevant, but clarity of mind on this stuff comes from our physical well-being, which originates with nutrition. If you can't follow along with Ray's article linked below, you've got zero business investing or trading, and you'd sure as heck not want a CFP or financial advisor managing your most precious resource, your own time and energy stored in retirement savings accounts or with banks. Reducing Inflation Will Come at a Great Cost: Stagflation https://www.dhirubhai.net/pulse/reducing-inflation-come-great-cost-stagflation-ray-dalio I can help you if any of that applies.
