Nutrition Focus newsletter: Why do diets fail?
Centers For Independence
Since 1938, CFI has been delivering care to help people with special needs achieve a higher level of self-sufficiency.
Diets have been a popular method for weight loss for decades, with new fad diets constantly emerging claiming to be the solution to shedding unwanted pounds. How-ever, the reality is that diets simply don’t work in the long run.
Diets often fail to address the underlying causes of weight gain, such as emotional eating, un-healthy habits, or medical conditions. Without addressing these root issues, it becomes nearly impossible to sustain weight loss in the long term.
Diets can have negative effects on mental health. The constant cycle of dieting and weight regain can take a toll on self-esteem and lead to disordered eating patterns.
Nutrition Services has been working behind the scenes to improve our meals for the better. Feel free to incorporate tips from some of our new initiatives into your eating habits, and ditch the diet to in-stead focus on holistic health and well-being.

Avoiding Problematic Added Ingredients
Nutrition Services has been working to avoid certain ingredients as often as possible. While approved by the FDA, these ingredients have been found to be problematic in scientific studies. These ingredients include certain artificial col-ors, preservatives, emulsifiers, and flour treatment agents, as well as artificial flavors, sweeteners, and other non-nutritive sweeteners.
Food manufacturers have begun changing for the better
Its been exciting to see some of the biggest food manufacturers working to remove certain harmful ingredients from their products.
For example: Trix cereal from General Mills is available in a 25% reduced sugar version. This version also doesn’t contain any artificial colors or flavors.
Due to these changes, Trix cereal is on the menu for January 2024! Other new items which have been added due to the newer (and in our opinion, better) formulation include: Reduced Sugar Cocoa Puffs, and Pilsbury Mini Cinnis (a less mess version of the classic Pilsbury cinnamon roll).
