Nurturing a Stree-Resilient Mindset at Work

As the start of the school year is fast approaching...or already here...things can get hectic. It's easy during the rush of activity to get overwhelmed or stressed without even realizing it.

Stress is not only a mental challenge but can manifest physically, impairing our productivity, creativity, and overall well-being. That's why it's essential to recognize stress as it happens and equip ourselves with the right skills to handle it. Here are some techniques you can employ to manage stress in the moment:

Deep Breathing:?This simple exercise can help lower your heart rate and blood pressure, promoting a sense of calm. Close your eyes, breathe in slowly and deeply for a count of four, hold your breath for a count of four, and exhale slowly for a count of four. Repeat as necessary.

Mindfulness and Grounding:?When stress escalates, we can get lost in our thoughts. Grounding techniques bring us back to the present moment. Focus on your physical sensations - what you can see, touch, hear, or smell. This act helps you regain control and refocus.

Break and Move:?Short breaks during work can significantly reduce stress levels. Stand up, stretch, take a short walk, or do some quick exercises. This helps to break the cycle of stress and rejuvenates the mind.

Positive Self-Talk:?Remember to practice kindness towards yourself. Replace negative thoughts with positive affirmations. A simple phrase like "I can handle this" or "This is temporary" can make a difference.

Reach Out:?If stress becomes overwhelming, don't hesitate to reach out to a trusted colleague, supervisor, or friend. Sometimes, merely talking about your concerns can provide a fresh perspective and reduce anxiety.

Lastly, remember it's okay to?ask for help when needed. Taking care of your mental health is a crucial aspect of your overall wellness, and it directly impacts the quality of your work and life.
