Humanity exists in a delicate and interconnected relationship with nature, yet we’ve failed to truly prioritize restoration and preservation of our planet. A profound shift is urgently needed. The children of today face a starkly different world a century from now—one that may bear little resemblance to the Earth we know. Coastlines are already retreating, signaling the disappearance of cherished beaches and vital marine ecosystems. Much of what we take for granted today could vanish.
Reflecting on the past, the world I grew up in seemed unimaginable compared to the climate realities we now face. The thought of losing entire coastal cities to rising seas would have been inconceivable then, but it is rapidly becoming a reality. The devastation wrought by hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, tsunamis, wildfires, droughts, and earthquakes is not merely environmental—it is deeply personal and transformative. Those who have survived these disasters know they are life-altering, leaving indelible marks on individuals and communities alike.
The increasing ferocity of these natural events forces us to confront a troubling truth: unchecked greed and denial have fueled environmental neglect. How have we allowed the pursuit of short-term gains to outweigh our responsibility to safeguard the Earth for future generations? Each loss—of a home, a coastline, an ecosystem—is a stark reminder of the urgent need to recalibrate our relationship with nature and act decisively to mitigate the impacts of climate change before it's too late.
