NURTURING INDIA'S WATER FUTURE: UNLEASHING THE PRIVATE SECTOR'S POTENTIAL THROUGH FORWARD FASTER 2030

Water scarcity is a global predicament, and its ramifications are particularly pronounced in countries like India. To address this critical issue, the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) has launched the Forward Faster 2030 initiative, emphasizing water resilience. This global initiative urges companies to fortify water resilience in their worldwide operations and supply chains, striving for a collective positive impact in at least 100 vulnerable water basins by 2030.

India, characterized by its vast population and diverse topography, grapples with profound water challenges exacerbated by rapid urbanization, industrial expansion, and agricultural demands. NITI Aayog reports that 600 million Indians confront high to extreme water stress, with 21 major cities anticipated to deplete groundwater by 2020. India is the among the largest Asian economies will be most affected by water scarcity. These stark figures underscore the imperative for immediate action to combat water issues. The Forward Faster 2030 initiative's emphasis on bolstering water resilience seamlessly aligns with India's prevailing water landscape. By inspiring companies to implement strategies that enhance water efficiency, curtail pollution, and advocate responsible water management, the initiative can play a pivotal role in mitigating water scarcity in the country. Furthermore, the collaborative facet of the initiative empowers companies to unite, pooling their influence to effect substantial positive changes in India's water basins.

The private sector holds a pivotal role in addressing India's water challenges, and the UNGC's Forward Faster 2030 initiative provides a compelling framework for such involvement. Companies, by fortifying water resilience in their operations and supply chains, can contribute significantly to sustainable water management and positively impact vulnerable water basins. The collaborative ethos of the initiative fosters partnerships that magnify the private sector's efforts. With a proactive stance and a commitment to responsible water stewardship, the private sector can spearhead transformative change, paving the way for a more water-secure future in India.
