Panel members and chairs help to keep people safe? ??

At the NMC we are responsible for ensuring that those on our register meet our professional standards. On occasions we need to consider if a professional is fit to practise without restriction – something that affects a tiny minority of professionals each year. Where we have a concern, we might bring these before a meeting or hearing of the practice committees. Our panels members, who sit on those practice committees, are independent decision makers and play a significant role in maintaining professional standards and conduct.?

Can you demonstrate our values of kindness, fairness, collaboration and ambition???

Successful applicants will be those who demonstrate our values and are able to participate in the panel in reaching timely, fair and safe decisions.??

Applicants should have a genuine interest in making a significant contribution to protecting the health and wellbeing of the public and maintaining confidence in the professions of nursing and midwifery.??

You must be able to meet the following competencies and behaviours:??

  • Leadership and management (Panel chair)?
  • Professionalism and integrity?
  • Collaboration?
  • Communication?
  • High quality decision making?
  • Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion?

?You will need to devote at least 15 days a year to the role, and you will receive remuneration of £320 per day as a panel member or £367 per day as a panel chair.? ? ?

?We encourage applications from candidates from all backgrounds and protected characteristics. We particularly encourage registrants and lay candidates from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds to apply. We also want to hear from nursing associates, as we currently do not have any nursing associate panel members, which we are keen to change.?? ? ?

We are committed to selection processes that are accessible, fair, transparent, based on merit and free from bias and unlawful discrimination. ? ?
