Nurses.. Are you Ready!?

Nurses.. Are you Ready!?

Nurses today are playing new roles in coordinating care from multiple providers, managing caseloads of patients with intense care needs, and helping patients transition out of hospitals and into the home/ or other settings. They are working as “health coaches” and in other ways to prevent illness and promote wellness. As well, they are charting new paths in emerging fields like telehealth, informatics, and genetics and as healthcare leaders in society.

Traditional RNs and advanced practice registered nurses, meanwhile, are playing expanded roles as the health care system evolves to meet new needs.

Tracking outcomes as a measure of effectiveness and leading and participating in ongoing improvement to ensure excellence will require exquisite teamwork as excellence crosses departments, roles, and responsibilities. “Nurses can no longer take a back seat—the time has come for nursing, at the heart of patient care, to take the lead in the transformation phase to make primary healthcare more patient-centered, accessible, affordable, and quality-driven”.

The question to be asked is: “Are you Nurses ready for The Future of Nursing in the New Healthcare Arena ?”

I think that having extra efforts to promote leaders within the nursing profession "from the front lines of care to the boardroom" will prepare nurses with the skills needed to help improve health care and advance their profession. As leaders, nurses must act as full partners in redesign efforts, be accountable for their own contributions to delivering high-quality care and work collaboratively with leaders from other health professions.
