May 6 is National Nurses Day in the United States. I have already sent a special card to the entire staff at the Maine VA Home in Caribou, Maine. Taking action helps nurses to continue to be recognized for the tremendous work that they do. Hours and days of devotion to patients and residents – never complaining about the tremendous responsibility. Their care often means a difference between life and death.
May 12 is Mother’s Day 2020. This is going to be a special day this year. My own mother died in 1985 but I have always made an attempt to pay attention to another mother who may have been deprived of such a special celebration.
I am focusing on the medical staff around the world. These mothers selflessly work around the clock during this epidemic.
More specifically I am paying attention to all the nurses and aids who work at the Maine VA Home in Caribou, Maine where my husband resides with many other veterans. These brave men and women served their country and now require services from the nurses to the end of their life on this earth.
Nurses and aids who serve them have become frontline workers because of the epidemic. They are in fact doing what these military men and women did for them when serving for their country. They too have children of their own. They too may be away from their children on Mother’s Day 2020 – because they are serving military personnel in need of protection from the Coronavirus and other conditions. These mothers deserve our attention this year.
Take action - I invite you to mark your calendar and take action on May 6 and May 12 this year. It can be a card. It can be a letter. It can be a phone call. God bless all the mothers, especially mothers in the nursing field.
