1. Why did you decide to be a nurse?
I just love helping people and making their day better. Since I was a kid, I told my grandpa I wanted to be a nurse. It's just who I am – a caring person. There's nothing like that feeling when you know you've made a difference.
2. What's the best part of your job?
The most rewarding thing is not just helping patients but also their families. Families can get pretty worried, you know? When people notice and appreciate the good job you're doing, it feels great. Getting a "thank you" from someone who sees you really care is the best.
3. What's the toughest part of your job?
Dealing with families can be tricky, and saying goodbye to a patient you've been looking after for a while is hard. Sometimes, patients don't make it, and that's tough too.
4. How do you handle the tough moments?
领英推荐
Having supportive colleagues and a work family is crucial. We help each other through the hard times because only someone who's been there really gets it. I also talk to my family, but they don't understand as much as my work buddies do.
5. What makes you feel valued as a nurse?
Seeing patients smile when they see me, remembering my name, and being glad I'm there – that's what matters. Little things like a patient saying, "Thank God it's you today" or remembering how I helped them in a tricky situation, it's all pretty rewarding.
6. What do you wish people knew about nursing?
It's not an easy job with short hours. We work long shifts, often 12 hours, and it's not a walk in the park. There's a lot of emotional stuff to deal with, and it's not as simple as some people think. It involves a lot of personality clashes, grief, and loss.
7. Any advice for new nurses?
It can be scary at first, especially in nursing school when you have no clue what you're doing. But you learn on the job, and the people around you are your best teachers. Stick with experienced nurses, shadow them, and you'll be okay. Look at the bigger picture – you can always switch things up in the field. It's a rewarding career once you get the hang of it!
Thank you for your efforts and impact you've made on so many lives. It's clear that your care is beyond the patient, but also the families that are directly and indirectly impacted. You're a true hero, and I am very thankful to have spent time working with you.
