THE FOUNDER

Based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Chef Nurliyana Rusli is the founder of ChookIt (@letschookit), a brand for people looking to heal through simple and healthy food.

In 2014, Nurliyana realized that the hustle and bustle of the busy corporate world weren't for her. Her passion was in cooking food for herself and for her family. In her words: “It was a way for me to make an impact and show my love in a very personal way, unlike the corporate world. This is what inspired me to become a chef.”

Nurliyana has traveled the world, done cooking training in Tokyo, Melbourne, and Paris, and competed at the Bocuse D'Or World Cooking Competition in Lyon. Moving back to Kuala Lumpur in February 2020 just before the covid-19 pandemic. To cope with being isolated, she started hosting fine dining dinners for friends and family. She loved the fun atmospheres, creating experimental menus, and offering a place for friends and family to come together just to enjoy life. This inspired Nurliyana to create Chook It on the 31st of August 2020, Malaysia Independence Day.

Nurliyana has been battling the pandemic and the confinement rules since she launched ChookIt in August of 2020. In hopes of relaunching again in 2021, Nurliyana had the objective of redesigning her website and adding a scheduling system for private dining bookings. Efi, one of our Expert Designers helped Nurliyana achieve her goal, and we’ll soon reveal this awesome website design to you.

THE WORK

ChookIt is a one-woman business on a mission to make healthy food and fine dining affordable and accessible to most because wholesome and healthy food shouldn't be out of reach and expensive.

A study carried out by researchers at the University of Cambridge and the University of East Anglia has found that the price of food per calorie in the UK between 2002 and 2012 was consistently higher for healthier food than for less healthy food. The suggestion is that this may affect people’s food choices, and therefore their long-term health.

Given the current economic climate, as well as concerns about diet-related health conditions, ChookIt's mission is more relevant and important to the world than ever.
