?? NumPy 2.0 is almost out!

Hi everyone ??

I'm Luca Gilli, co-founder and CTO at Clearbox AI and today I'd like to talk to you about NumPy 2.0.

What is NumPy?

NumPy, the cornerstone library for numerical computing in Python, has been an indispensable tool for data scientists and engineers for nearly two decades. Originally created by Travis Oliphant (the founder of Anaconda) in 2006, NumPy has evolved into a robust and efficient library for handling large, multi-dimensional arrays and matrices.

The new release

This landmark version, NumPy 2.0, is the result of months of dedicated work by 198 contributors, culminating in over 1000 pull requests. NumPy 2.0 introduces numerous groundbreaking features, significant API improvements, and, most importantly, substantial performance enhancements.

The changes

However, this release also brings several breaking changes. Developers can find guidance on adapting their code in the NumPy 2.0 migration guide. It's essential to be cautious when migrating to NumPy 2.0. Tools like Ruff can assist in identifying and resolving compatibility issues during the transition. ?

Will you stick with NumPy 1.0 for a while, or are you brave enough to try migrating to 2.0 as soon as it is officially out? ??
