Numbers and Letters - a poem
This is about what is present for me and some current themes in society. I find writing and sharing this as a means of expression, and to provide some kind of solution or hope, helps to clear what is stuck. Warning, it's not graphic but still it could bring something up in you because it deals with recent heated events.
Numbers and letters,
Are both a blessing and a curse.
Both of which make our world,
For better or for worse.
Without which we are lost,
No more back and forth.
Just ask the heart what it would say,
If it had a mouth.
Or to the head instead,
Direct the feelings out.
The head holds on.
It wants its turn.
To run and scream and shout!
To count.
To doubt.
To practice soliloquies as if with ease,
Despite the odds that mount.
When the wind is felt,
What does it say?
As it glides across the skin.
When women can't decide,
And children can't play,
Then who could possibly win?
In such helpless times as these,
When the difference of words means the loss of lives,
The air feels thin.
This again?
Really, this again?!
The words and numbers leave a trace,
A trail,
A warning of what's come before.

Yet somehow we keep repeating,
And repeating the same mistakes evermore.
Who is keeping score anymore?
What's in store anymore?
What's in stock is what starts now.
How we fix the mess somehow.
Take away the colors,
That's how.
Take away all the numbers and letters and colors,
And what's left is what we need.
Beyond the math.
Beyond the stories.
Beyond even the greed.
Deep inside there lies an answer,
In the form of a seed.
Without a shell.
Without a me.
Without any labels on a screen.
You've been there before, you know.
It feels like such a long time ago.
When you look back at the show,
What fills the hole,
Is the soul.
If the children are to truly live,
Then they have to play.
They must have a safe home and school,
Where people listen to what they say.
It can't wait until tomorrow.
We've lost too much to wait another day.
Come what may,
Doesn't mean it has to stay.
Come what may,
Doesn't mean it has to stay.
Connecting the World’s Applications.
