Numbers Don't Lie- Or Do They?

As I log on to LinkedIn I am told there are sixty-four notifications. When I make it to the site- about sixteen. Is there an oxytocin rush when they bait me into thinking there are more comments than usual?

This site does not need to stress urgency. Notifications have been off kilter for a while. Sometimes when I take eight hours off this site I receive emails that someone responded. It is not in the feed. I have to find it by accident to respond or like the comment.

LinkedIn is weird. They give meaningless analytics and others which are functional are taken away. In the old days, views on each article were front and center. Now they post impressions and I have to dig to see who actually opened it.

They don't save records after two years. Only impressions which tells me nothing. It is interesting to see who read an article from three years ago. They are seeing it for the first time.

I have no idea how anyone finds my work. I don't need to be told that I have a million billion notifications. 9+ is sufficient. That could be ten. It could be forty. They state a specific number before I log on and the actual number is much lower.

The actual number of comments is average. I usually have between twelve and thirty depending. Some of those are comments from connections with someone else. Do I need to know they are congratulating their connection for landing a new position? It's good they have an offer. I wouldn't know them and don't need to be notified.

Replies to comments fall away. Maybe the random comments fall away as well. Can't miss what you did not have. There will be more to do and I feel no better with the rumor that many commented and the truth is the regular number of comments are responses is how I open the site. Hopefully they will fix this.

I have an issue with their definition of a notification, what is it exactly?
