Why Your Hook Doesn’t Work?


Your Customer Is Not the Main Character.


As for any story, you can't fail the main character.

If your customer isn’t positioned as the Protagonist, your message will fail to resonate.


You may still make this mistake: my product is the main character.

No.

Your product is either the support or the tool of your customer.

Products fulfill the needs and desires of customers.

The product-first approach leads to a lack of emotional connection.

It leaves customers overlooked and disengaged.


The best hooks have 5 steps:

  1. Name of the Platform,
  2. Name or Role of the Customer (alongside desirable outcome),
  3. Re-Hook (Declarative or Interrogative),
  4. Negative phrasing (in either Hook or Re-Hook),
  5. Parenthesis,

If you're a beginner, focus everything on step 2.

Shift your focus to your customers.

Capture attention.

Drive engagement.

Position them as the heroes of your story, and make it clear how your offerings empower them to achieve their goals.


When crafting your stories (particularly your headlines, slogans and other one-liners), focus on these 3 elements:

- Start with your Ideal Customer's Main Pain: State the main and most critical challenge they face every day.

- Highlight Your Success Stories: Try to skip external testimonials. Explain how you benefited from your product. If you're not using it, why should they?

- Create Relatable Stories: Write real stories. Not advertisements. Actually, if you look at early advertising there was more cinematographic and photographic effort than now...

If you write them a message, make them feel heard.

Always develop narratives that resonate with your audience’s aspirations.

Always adopt their perspective.

Empathy makes them feel valued.

Feeling valued makes them your people.

Your products are for your people.


By placing your customer at the center of your messaging, you turn them from observers into actors in your brand.

You want to grow ambassadors.
